• It’s oh so quiet…

We are once again entering a demanding period on campus with lots of deadlines, dissertations and revision taking place within the University Library!

From Monday 13th March we will be re-launching our anti-noise campaign to promote a study focused atmosphere across the library and we need YOU to consider your fellow students studying around you!

To help you find the appropriate space for the kind of studying you want to do we have simplified the different areas into a handy guide…

    For Silent Study

    • Use the Silent Study Room on the 2nd floor of the Library

    For Quiet Study

    • Use the 1st and 2nd floor of the Library, including bookable Individual Study Rooms*

    For Group Study

    • Use the Ground floor of the Library, including bookable Library Group Rooms*

    For Social Space

    • Use the 1st floor of the HUB

*How to book an Individual Study Room or Group Study Room

    • Option 1: Log in to GO and select “Room Booking” under the Learning Resources option in the Student Services box.
    • Option 2: Log in to GO and choose Learning Edge – the option to book the rooms is then on the left hand side under your faculty pages.
    • Option 3: If already logged in to GO go direct to the room booking page.
    • Rooms can be booked up to 2 weeks in advance.

Staff will continue to monitor noise levels across all of our learning spaces but if you do experience any inappropriate behaviour from other students, please report this immediately to a member of library staff.

You can report any problems to library staff in a number of ways…

Please note DESK HOURS are Monday to Friday 8am-9pm + Saturday and Sunday 11am-6pm. Outside these hours please report direct to the Welcome Desk on the ground floor.

All Edge Hill RefMe users were emailed about 6 weeks ago to let them know that the service was changing.

RefMe has now become Cite This for Me and you can no longer access RefMe.  If you use the app or the RefMe website you will be directed to the brand new Cite This For Me service.

The account migration process has started.  You will be able to login into Cite This For Me – although you do need to set a new password. The first time you login – it  will send an email instructing you to set a new password. Cite This For Me have reported that the migration of references may take a couple of days so if your references aren’t there yet, please check back in a few days.

If you were using RefMe and had references in the app, they will move over and you will have free access to Cite This For Me for the rest of the academic year 2016/17, however, Cite This For Me is a paid for app and has different functionality to RefMe and may not be as suitable once Edge Hill free access has terminated.

To help you manage your references,  why not take a look at RefWorks which is provided by Learning Services.

Here is the current RefWorks guide or you can contact us via ehu.ac.uk/askus

  • For Your Consideration…

Awards Season is upon us, the time of year when the subtle dramas and indie fare slowly but surely supplant the big budget explosions in the cinema listings. Where everyone has a different answer for Film of the Year. The once hotly tipped front runner has been snubbed by the academy. And the film everyone loved suddenly gets too popular and goes on to suffer the inevitable backlash.

We’ve had the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs, every conceivable critics’ circle and guild, the newspaper editorials on what will and will not win, the surprises, the flops and the upsets, culminating in the Oscars on Sunday 26th February.

What better time to re-watch the winners of yesteryear, finally get around to seeing that critical hit you missed, or give that one film another go to see what all the fuss was about.

The nominees for your viewing pleasure can be found on our Box of Broadcasts           And the Award Goes to… playlist.

From Argo to All Quiet on the Western Front, from 12 Years a Slave to Gone with the Wind and everything in between.

    After the music has played…

Box of Broadcast (BoB) doesn’t come and go like an award contender’s marketing campaign, it is an on-demand TV and radio service available all the year round, with a vast array of content and material to cite and aide you in your learning and teaching.

Students and staff can view material, create playlists and edit clips from over 65 free-to-air channels including BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four, ITV, Channel 4, Film4 and many others, together with an archive of over 2 million broadcasts ranging from last night to the last century.

To view the playlist, simply follow this link to Box of Broadcasts. When prompted to sign in, select Edge Hill University as your home institution and log in using your Edge Hill username and password.

Available across all desktop, android and iOS devices you can watch live, request or record programmes. It has an easy to search format that provides detailed citation data to help you with academic referencing.

In the best supporting material category, check out our online guide or watch a video tutorial.

    Enjoy the show!
