• Do you need classroom materials for your teaching placement?

It may be early in the term but if you are working with children and you are looking for materials to take to your placement/setting for use in the classroom you may want to check out the Education Resource Collection.

The collection contains a range of materials from books (fiction and non-fiction), posters, games, dvds, and much more. Some of the non-book materials are kept in interesting looking boxes-do explore them!. Most items from the collection are issued for 12 weeks and can be renewed if there are no reservations so you can plan your lessons well ahead.

We have relocated & improved the collection for this year and it is now housed on the first floor of the University Library. There is a new phonics section, a new storage area for the oversize picture books, study space and some soft seating.

If you want to find out more do visit the Education Subject Resources webpage. You can get to this by going to the Learning Services webpages, www.edgehill.ac.uk/ls, click and the Subject Resources link and choose Teacher Training and Education from the dropdown list. Click on the Resources tab and select the Classroom resources link.

Struggling with reading academic texts and articles?  If you are, come along to our Routemaster session about reading which takes place next Tuesday (22 October). Aimed at developing your understanding of yourself as a ‘reader’ of complex texts, we’ll also consider some strategies that can help you to engage more fully with the reading you do as part of your course.

There are 10 places available and bookings can be made online at: ehstudyskills2013.eventbrite.com

Have you heard about our Routemaster programme?

This year Learning Services are running two strands within our student support programme. We have sessions within Steps to Academic Success and new this term, Steps to Employability.  We are calling the programme Routemaster – Your route to success.

    Steps to Academic Success

These sessions are aimed at helping students progress by developing effective study and research techniques.

    Steps to Employability

These sessions have been developed to enhance student’s digital skills.  This includes managing your digital footprint, using social media for your career and using ICT in the workplace.

We have a printed timetable which you might have seen at our help desks, and the full programme and booking information is available online.  The timetable for both strands gives you details of the sessions in semester 1.  We do offer a number of repeat sessions if one date isn’t convenient.  Each session has 10 places which are released 10 days in advance, so keep an eye out for details and announcements or speak to a member of staff at the Ask desk, 1st floor University Library.

If would like to book a bespoke session for your students, please get in touch with your Academic Liaison Librarian or myself
