Take a walk with us…
National Poetry Day is the annual celebration of all things poetical and this year the University Library invites you to join us for a week of activities including a poetry walk around our beautiful campus!
The world as we know it today is so very busy, and we are in such heavy demand from emails, telephone calls, assignments, social media……we felt it was only fitting to take some time out from the daily stresses and reflect on something a little more relaxing!
On Thursday 6th October we invite you to take some time out from your daily MESSAGES and escape with us on a poetry walk around campus.
The walk will meet in four different locations to allow students and staff to join the group at different times to suit your lunch hour…
12:00 The University Library foyer
12:30 The Sunken Garden
13:00 Durning Centre entrance
13:30 Sports Centre entranceAt each location a poem, around the 2016 theme of messages, will be read aloud and there will be opportunity to discuss. You can even take inspiration from your surroundings and have a go writing your own poem…or just bring along an existing favourite to share!
This is a FREE event, no booking required, just drop in (and out) as you need to!
NB: Unfortunately we cannot predict the weather so please dress accordingly on the day and you are very welcome to bring/eat your lunch with us too!

Mapping Ormskirk Through The Years
Are you new to the area, or perhaps a returning student, and would like to know more about our (your new) local town?
Historically a market town at the heart of West Lancashire, steeped in history and character, is where you will call home for the next year or more…but what does it have to offer?
Excellent shopping, with a mixture of high street, independent and market retailers, a wide range of cafes, bars, restaurants and pubs, and lots of green open spaces, such as Coronation Park or Ruff Wood…and it is all within walking distance of the University!
But what about the town before the Ormskirk we know today – what did that look like?
Well, why not visit our latest exhibition of maps, books, and photos and discover interesting archives such as…
- One of the earliest maps of Ormskirk dated 1609
- Visual and written information on the development of the town across the centuries
- Photographs of Edge Hill and Ormskirk town in the past
We would also like you to share your TOP TIPs for living/studying in Ormskirk with our new students…
- Do you have a favourite eating/drinking place?
- Where do you like to shop?
- Which street offer the best bargains?
How to share your TOP TIPs…
- Visit our exhibition and write your tips on our TOP TIPs notice board!
- Tweet us!
- Facebook us!
- You could even tag us in your Instagram photo tips!
We look forward to see, and hearing, from you soon!
