• Student Led Teaching Awards – now including personal tutors and support staff.

    • Are you an excellent teacher?
    • A personal tutor who goes above and beyond?
    • Or are you a member of support staff who gives excellent support and great customer service?
    • Well now your students can say thank you!
    • For the past two years the Student Led Teaching Awards have been run by the Students’ Union and ultimately they result in the Chancellor’s awards which are given out at the summer graduation ceremonies. This year they have been extended to recognise the excellent support from personal tutors and support staff. These are three separate categories.
    • Nominations are already open and will close on 10th May. The winner will be decided in June and will receive a prize of a personal development grant. Students nominate by filling an online form and can nominate as many staff members they wish.

  • Can’t find the book you’re after? We’re here to help…

What do you do when all the copies of that essential book are out on loan and you don’t have the time to wait for a reservation to come in? Well, don’t panic, there are several things you can do to find other books which may be equally as valuable.

    • If you search for the book in Discover More, go into the record of the book and at the bottom of the page there is a section with details of books by the same author and books on a similar subject. These are all books that we have bought, which will be in stock, and which may be just as good (or better) than the book you want
    • You can also do a keyword search around your topic, in the library catalogue or Discover More and this will give you details of books on that subject.
    • Don’t forget that you can also use Discover More to find journal articles on your chosen topic. These will often be short, to the point and contain plenty of references to other relevant material

So, just because you can’t find the book you want doesn’t mean that there aren’t alternatives which could be on the shelves or available electronically.

What’s more- if you need any help with using the library catalogue or Discover More you can ask one of the librarians at the Ask desk on the first floor of the library. Alternatively you can email [email protected].

Learning Services are celebrating World Book Night this year and we will be handing out free copies of books in the HUB on the 23rd April between 10am-2pm.

World Book Night is a celebration of reading and books which sees tens of thousands of passionate volunteers gift specially chosen and printed WBN books in their communities to share their love of reading.

We have been successful in obtaining 5 titles , so we should have approx 100 free books (first come, first served)

    This year the titles include:

We have also set up some displays on the ground floor of the Library, with some of the titles from this year and some from previous years that we have in stock.

Get reading for pleasure, you know it makes sense.
