What do you do when all the copies of that essential book are out on loan and you don’t have the time to wait for a reservation to come in? Well, don’t panic, there are several things you can do to find other books which may be equally as valuable.

  • If you search for the book in Discover More, go into the record of the book and at the bottom of the page there is a section with details of books by the same author and books on a similar subject. These are all books that we have bought, which will be in stock, and which may be just as good (or better) than the book you want
  • You can also do a keyword search around your topic, in the library catalogue or Discover More and this will give you details of books on that subject.
  • Don’t forget that you can also use Discover More to find journal articles on your chosen topic. These will often be short, to the point and contain plenty of references to other relevant material

So, just because you can’t find the book you want doesn’t mean that there aren’t alternatives which could be on the shelves or available electronically.

What’s more- if you need any help with using the library catalogue or Discover More you can ask one of the librarians at the Ask desk on the first floor of the library. Alternatively you can email [email protected].
