• Studies got you spooked 😱 who you gonna call?

    Learning Services 👻 It may be a scary time of year but Learning Services is on hand to give you all the support you need to help you study happier and healthier. Come along to one of our special, spooky, workshops all next week to learn how to manage your time, be more organised, relax your mind, find your resources, stop procrastinating and take the fear out of presenting!

    All workshops will take place in the University Library meeting room, which has been spookily renamed the LS Meeting Room of Doom for one week only! The meditation workshop required a more serene and open space so look for this one in the Dance Studio, over in the Wilson Centre, and the free healthy snacks and mindful activities will be available at the Ask Desk every weekday 11am-4pm.

    Manage your time and be a more organised you!
    Monday 30th October, 12pm-1pm – LS Meeting Room of Doom

    Are you struggling to find enough hours in the day to get everything done, and on time? Come along to our free workshop and learn how to be a more organised you! Evaluate how to plan your time more effectively, identify gaps you could be using better, explore tips and tools to help prioritise and organise your studies!

    Meditation, relaxation and clear your mind!
    Tuesday 31st October, 1pm-2pm – Dance Studio, Wilson Centre

    Students – do you struggle to keep on top of your workload? Would you like to reduce stress and anxiety in the run up to deadlines? Meditation can help you to focus and concentrate better and for longer, reduce anxiety and boost your energy and sleep quality – all of which could have a positive impact on your studies.  Come along to our free meditation taster session! Learn to meditate in a relaxed environment using a simple, non-religious technique.

    Take the stress out of finding resources!
    Wednesday 1st November, 1pm-2pm – LS Meeting Room of Doom

    Are you feeling forever lost when looking for your resources? Are you struggling to use the library catalogue or overwhelmed by all the results in Discover More? Then this is the workshop for you – come along and be guided through the top tips and techniques to take the stress out of finding resources!

    Stop procrastinating and be proactive!
    Thursday 2nd November, 12pm-1pm – LS Meeting Room of Doom

    Do you get high levels of anxiety at the thought of starting tasks? Do you get frustrated and your tolerance levels reach a new low at the thought of completing yet another piece of work? Then come along and explore hints and tips to overcome procrastination, improve motivation and productivity towards your academic work!

    Take the fear out of presentations!
    Friday 3rd November, 1pm-2pm – LS Meeting Room of Doom

    Are you scared to take centre stage to present your work? This workshop will cover the different stages of putting together a powerful presentation from practical tips to confidence techniques. How to recognise the importance of planning and structuring your presentation, learn how to create a presentation that is both accessible and visually appealing and discover how to deliver to an audience with confidence!

    Take a break with free healthy snacks and mindful activities (drop in)
    Daily, 11am-4pm – Ask Desk

    It is well known that one of the most important factors to be successful at University is your health and wellbeing, and sometimes we all need a little bit of a boost! A lot of burn the candle at both ends but it is important to find a good balance between valuable time for yourself and time for study. Come along to the Ask Desk all week (11am-4pm) to fuel your brain cells into action. There will be free healthy snacks and water and you can take a well-earned break from your studies. Please note free healthy snacks and water will be limited each day – first come, first served!

    So come along and learn how to study healthy, study happy!

  • Introducing the new UniSkills workshop programme…

    Introducing the new UniSkills workshop programme for Semester 1!

    This series of 1-hour workshops will cover a range of essential topics such as finding the right sources for your assignment, academic writing, Harvard referencing and dissertations. Our dedicated team of skills advisors will help you to learn and develop a suite of academic skills you can draw on throughout your time at University.

    The workshop programme is aimed at all students no matter what your year of study and no matter what your course – we believe there’s something in it for everyone!

    New for 2017-18 we bring you Technology for Learning to introduce you to software applications that can assist you in your studies and Manage your time. Be a more organised you perfect for balancing the demands of student life and study!

    Can’t make the date??

    Access a wealth of academic support and library resources from your My Library tab in Learning Edge, including our collection of interactive online toolkits. Each toolkit acts like an online tutorial to guide you through key academic topics using a combination of videos, audio clips, animations, quizzes, practical advice and handy tips!

    If you’d prefer to see us in person, you can speak to a member of the team face to face at the Ask Desk on the 1st floor of the University Library (11am-2pm weekdays). You can also contact the team through Ask Us.

  • Student to student support – meet the Student Advisor Team!

    We’d like to give a warm welcome to our new team of Student Advisors: David, Hannah, Rachel, Declan and Sophie.

    The Student Advisors are based at the Ask Desk on the first floor of the University Library, and they are here to support you! The team provide flexible support to new and current students around the Library and wider campus (look out for the purple t-shirts!). From brief queries about printing to more in-depth support around finding resources for your assignment, the team are available at the Ask Desk Monday to Friday, 11am – 4pm.

    All third year or postgraduate students, David, Hannah, Rachel, Declan and Sophie have brought with them their subject knowledge from their individual disciplines together with a wealth of experience from studying at Edge Hill themselves, using that to help all students in a variety of ways…

    Come and speak to them for advice including:

    • Searching the Library Catalogue and Discover More
    • Using eResources for your subject
    • Locating books
    • Navigating Learning Edge and your My Library Tab
    • Accessing UniSkills academic support
    • Turnitin assistance
    • General IT queries
    • Printing, scanning and photocopying queries

    So bring your questions to your Student Advisors at the Ask Desk or stop them on their travels around campus, it’s peer-to-peer support – they’re here to support you.

    Getting to know your library…

    The team will be offering student-led library tours daily until Wednesday 27th Sept (10am-4pm). (This is by far the best way to get to know the library, hearing from the people that know it best!) If you’re more of a night-owl, why not come to one of the Twilight tours running in the evening on 3rd and 5th October 6-8pm?

    In addition this year, the Student Advisor team will be running drop-in sessions as part of Learning Services’ wide-ranging UniSkills workshop programme.

    The drop-ins will cover the basics of finding your way round Learning Edge, accessing library resources and using UniSkills academic support to enhance your study skills!

    If you can’t make the times, don’t forget you can find the Student Advisor team at the Ask Desk (1st floor, University Library) from 11am-4pm weekdays.
