Each year Learning Services requests that academic staff submit their reading lists for checking and ordering. A brief summary of the process follows:
- Academic staff email us their reading lists which should include student numbers and module semester dates
- Information Resources staff check the reading lists against the library catalogue
- Book suppliers web sites are checked for the most up to date edition of the book and to see if the book is available electronically
- This enables us check we have enough copies in stock
- We can digitise a chapter of a book if an ebook is not available. There are certain copyright restrictions on this service so do check with your academic liaison librarian
- Your academic liaison librarian makes the final decision as to how many copies to buy and in which format
- The module code is added to the bibliographic record in the library catalogue
How will this help the students?
- This process ensures we purchase the correct stock
- Students can type their module code into the library catalogue and bring up their reading list
- Teaching staff can embed a URL into the VLE which will take the students directly to the reading list
- The reading list can contain links to electronic journals, ebooks, online databases and past exam papers
