Hello and a massive welcome to all our new Fastrack students, we look forward to meeting you and getting to know you all. We are Library and Learning Services and we are here to provide support with all aspects of your academic study.
Who are Library and Learning Services?
Library and Learning Services (LS) are based in Catalyst alongside Student Services and Careers. Head over to the LS Induction pages to find out what the teams do; how they can support you and what facilities are available in the building.
Explore our Learning and Support Services Induction Toolkit, or watch a virtual induction, at your own pace. If you’ve yet to explore Catalyst’s facilities you can also take a virtual tour with our Student Advisor, Maya today!
Your Library Resources
To find all your print and electronic resources Discover More is the place to search. Access your online reading lists and (by clicking on the book titles) find out the items location and availability. Collect items directly from the Library shelves and check them out on any of the self-issue machines located around Catalyst. If an item is ever unavailable (e.g. all out on loan) you can place a reservation and we’ll let you know when it is ready to collect!
As an Edge Hill student you also have access to thousands of high quality academic eResources. If you need any help finding academic information or navigating your online resources we have lots of information, video tutorials, guides and interactive toolkits on our UniSkills web pages – all available 24/7! You can also book a 1-2-1 Information Skills appointment with the UniSkills team!
Academic Skills Support (UniSkills)
Although your DASS (Developing Academic Study Skills) module will give you lots of information about how to develop your study skills at University, you also have full access to our UniSkills support. To find out more about how we can support you head over to the UniSkills web pages. On here you’ll discover loads of advice to help you with assignment planning, critical thinking, punctuation, proofreading and much more.
If you require more tailored support you can book a 1-2-1 appointment with one of our friendly and knowledgeable Academic Skills Advisors. These can really help if you want to focus on a particular piece of academic writing or research.
If you have, or think you have, a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) such as Dyslexia or Dyspraxia you can access additional support from our SpLD team. Support is available from first point of contact with the team so do not hesitate to reach out.
Online Learning
Visit our Online Learning web pages for more technical support as you get to grips with your learning. On here you can find a range of guides, videos and advice about:
- the online learning platform (Blackboard) that you will be using
- advice for using Office 365 and Microsoft Teams
- tips for accessing webinars, online tutorials and virtual meetings
- how to create and use accessible documents, including how to get the most out of Blackboard Ally’s alternative formats

Peer Support Video
It’s understandable to feel a little nervous or anxious but don’t worry as we are here to support you!
Our Student Advisor Paula enrolled as a Fastrack student four years ago and loved every minute of the experience.
Paula has recorded a few words of wisdom to reassure you in her short video.
