Introduction to Academic Writing and Referencing Skills

Are you new to writing at University level? Do you have your first assignment brief but you’re not sure what to do next? Then Introduction to Academic Writing is ideal for you as we introduce you to style and process of academic writing used at University. You could also join our Introduction to Harvard Referencing session and even Become a Paraphrasing Pro as we guide you through putting complex topics into your own words!

Develop Your Academic Writing Skills

UniSkills has loads to offer returning students too, especially if you’re keen to dust off your writing skills for the academic year ahead. Are you ready to take the next steps with your academic writing? Then book on our Develop Your Academic Writing or Being Critical sessions. Or perhaps you’ve had some feedback you’d like to work on this year? Our Grow Your Academic Resilience sessions can help you develop confidence to deal constructively with your feedback!

Research Skills

Using high quality academic information can make all the difference when it comes to writing your assignments and can even help improve your marks! If you’re struggling to find and evaluate resources for your assignments and would value some help to navigate Discover More you can join our Finding Academic Information or *NEW for 2021* Discover More: Accessing eBooks and eJournals sessions for lots of great advice!

Academic Reading Skills

And once you’ve nailed your research you’ll need to consider the best ways to approach your reading. Reading Academic Texts is an important part of your research process and we understand this can sometimes feel like a mammoth task – but that doesn’t need to be the case! Join us on this session to discover tips to develop your active reading and learn about strategies to help you develop effective reading skills.

Planning Your Dissertations

If you will be starting your dissertation this year then join us on one of our Planning Your Dissertation sessions as we discuss focus and originality in your research. You can choose from an undergraduate (Level 6) or taught postgraduate (Level 7) session to really focus your research and may also benefit from joining one of our Conducting a Literature Review sessions!

Returning to Learning

If you’ve had a break in your studies, and possibly feel a little overwhelmed, the Returning To Learning (R2L) student community of practice is the place for you! R2L offers a regular safe space to meet other students, chat about your learning experiences and share your study tips and strategies, as you settle back into University life.

Postgraduate Study Support

For those of you about to embark on a taught postgraduate programme of study at Edge Hill our brand *NEW for 2021* Transitioning into Postgraduate (PGT) Study can help to start your PGT journey on the right path!

Assessments and Submissions

As much as we’d all like to avoid those pesky deadlines, we’ve got you covered if you’re looking to beat those submission scaries! And our Proofreading Strategies session can help you dot those i’s and cross those t’s before submitting your assignments!

UniSkills Extra

And finally, for anyone looking for a little extra support we’ve also got our UniSkills Extra sessions! These are aimed at students who have a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) or disability, however, all students are very welcome to book on! Or if you’re ready to stop procrastinating Developing Strategies for Learning is ideal for helping you to work on your own strategies to manage your time better!

This year you can choose to join us on campus for a workshop (in Catalyst) or an online webinar (in Blackboard Collaborate) as we are offering a mix of delivery formats to ensure everyone can access a session to suit them! And we’ll even send you some follow up materials after you attend a session to keep your learning going!
