Raising awareness – support for students with a SpLD

The SpLD Support Team, based on the 1st floor of the University Library, work with students who have Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and other forms of SpLD, to support them in their studies. The support is focussed on assisting students to develop skills, such as, time management and organisation, reading and research, assignment writing and proof reading techniques.

To maximise the benefits of this service for all students, it is important that staff are fully aware of its scope.  The SpLD Support Team have run awareness raising sessions with colleagues in the Faculty of Education and the Department of Media, and are happy to chat to any colleagues who would like to find out more about SpLD; the team can also arrange to attend a departmental meeting.

Information about indicators of SpLD, referring students, understanding the SpLD assessment process and DSA applications, making content accessible and making reasonable adjustments, is available via the Learning Services wiki:

If you are interested in learning more about Dyslexia, the national Dyslexia Awareness week from 3- 9 November will include some local events run by the SpLD Support Team, including the opportunity for the team to chat about dyslexia with groups of staff or students.

The SpLD Support service is open to staff and students. For further information, please contact:
