Learning Services’ focus for staff development is on effective use of technologies; in the classroom, the office, interacting with students or undertaking research.  In November we have an extensive range of events across all four strands.  Here are some examples of events we are running across the month.

The Digital Classroom – using SMART board technology

• The Digital Office – Learning Edge Getting started, essential skills for tutors; Powerpoint – Enhancing your on-screen presentations, a session for competent users of Powerpoint; and advanced features of word processing, again a session for those competent in using Word.

• The Digital Practitioner – we have a session looking at sharing content via our repository eShare, this session will include cake!; get to know about the use of Assignment Handler; and using Campus Pack, a social learning platform that integrates social media tools such as wikis, blogs, and podcasts.

• The Digital Researcher – we have 11 sessions in November.  We have developed these sessions in collaboration with the Research Support Office.  To highlight couple of events we have – copyright and intellectual property rights; impact factors and how these can be used in terms of publishing; and effective information search strategies.

These are just a selection of what we are running in November.  We have created an area within our Learning Services staff wiki so you can see at a glance what is covered in each strand.

We will also disseminate information about the sessions via email,  and the HR wiki.  The programme is extensive and we suggest you use our wiki to find out more and check dates, plan your development and then book via the HR wiki. Each event links directly to the HR wiki so you can book online.

Staff within Learning Services’ are also able to deliver bespoke sessions to groups of staff so if there is something you would like us to run for your team or department, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.  We are keen to hear your feedback about how we develop our staff development programme to respond to the needs of the University.  If you have any suggestions, please leave us a comment.
