The new ‘Ask’ desk on the first floor of the library has been in operation now for 3 months and we are beginning to evaluate how it is working. The concept is based on providing students with easier access to staff who can answer a wide range of questions but also to be able to signpost them to immediate specialist support. Staff are available to provide academic skills, IT and library resources support as well as support from the SpLD team. In addition, this year we have a team of student assistants who are on hand to provide peer support at times of peak demand. We will be evaluating how it is working by gathering a range of feedback from students in January and February, as well as collating statistics on usage.
