Are you Edge Hill’s Next Top Intern?

Applications are now open for the Digital Student Internship 2023. This will be the third year of running the internship and we are thrilled to announce we have 20 student intern positions available to work alongside the Learning Technology team over the summer.

We spoke to two of our previous student interns to ask for their experience of taking part in the internship. Michelle and Jordan were Digital Student Interns in 2022 and worked alongside staff and academics to transition modules from Blackboard Original to Blackboard Ultra, part of this included creating course areas, creating banners and document pages and making documents accessible.

Michelle Hopwood – Digital Intern 2022

“The internship has been invaluable. Not only have I gained a role working at Edge Hill as a student advisor due to the skills developed on the internship, but I have secured two work placements and improved my project management skills – a key area I wanted to work on in year two. The best part was getting to know the staff and the other interns. It has been lovely getting to know other students and making networking connections that I would never have met without the internship.”

Jordan Carruthers – Digital Intern 2022

“The internship has allowed me to build my skills and knowledge that I can use towards my PGCE in Primary Education and hopefully towards my career in becoming a Primary School teacher. Throughout the internship we were tasked with making Blackboard much more accessible for students and transitioning modules from Original to Ultra. We worked alongside staff and academics to develop a much more accessible version, taking on tasks such as, creating banners and learning episodes.

“I think by allowing students to have a voice in the development of their course areas was a great opportunity for both students and staff. It allowed staff to view their content from a student perspective.

“Working on the digital internship has given me the opportunity to work with staff and see what goes on behind the scenes and help contribute to the development and transition to Blackboard Ultra.”

The digital internship is a 10 week paid programme which will involve working alongside academics and students from other departments to update and evaluate course areas within Blackboard Ultra (Learning Edge)

As part of the internship, students will have an exciting opportunity to attend the first Ultra Knowledge Exchange conference on the 6th June, where guests will hear from Blackboard developers and discover new features that are coming to Blackboard Ultra in September 2023.
