Dr Dean Wilkinson is a Chartered Coaching Psychologist, with an interest in how people can live improved lives.
He has extensive experience of evaluation work in the criminal justice settings and has previously made use of large data sets to explore the relationship between specific variables.
Dean can help you with setting up data monitoring, and improve data quality, so that an evaluation can be undertaken at a later stage. In cases where data already exists, he can provide analysis and interpretation to answer key questions.
Name of organisation
West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP).
Challenge
The VRP aimed to reduce serious and violent crime by applying a public health approach. A key challenge was evaluating whether individual interventions effectively contributed to long-term violence reduction and how they aligned with the overall Theory of Change.
How it was solved using data
Through a series of workshops, we worked with the partnership to develop a theory of change, and improve the quality of data routinely collected by the providers of interventions and services.
We analysed the data collected by the partnership to assess for effectiveness of the provisions – using qualitative and quantitative methods.
We worked with the overall partnership to develop their Theory of Change and mapped the micro-level interventions and commissioned services to identify gaps in services that contribute to a public health approach.
We developed and implemented methodologies to assess impact of the service, aspiring for the best quality data and robust methods of analysis.
What was the impact
Our work provided critical insights and evidence, which informed intervention development and commissioning. We formed an evidence based to underpin the measurable impacts on violence reduction. The data-driven approach informed strategic decisions, improved intervention targeting, and strengthened the public health model’s credibility in crime prevention.
