As part of our commitment to supporting the next generation of talent within the social sciences and the humanities, we are working to deliver a series of workshops for early career researchers. These workshops aim to encourage the development of collaborative research between talented early career scholars from the UK and overseas. In January we brought together researchers with an interest in Future Earth and this month we have been in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for a workshop on violence with the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.

We have continued our critical European engagement. Jointly with other pan-European organisations, the All European Academies (ALLEA) – whose Framework Programme 9 Working Group is chaired by the British Academy – has published a joint statement on ‘Living Together: Missions for Shaping the Future’. We have also published a factsheet on the different forms of association to EU Framework Programmes to illustrate the current options open to the UK and our Chief Executive, Alun Evans, has been speaking about the potential impact of Brexit.
