The Wellcome Trust and the Education Endowment Foundation invite applications for their improving science education scheme. This provides funding to test educational approaches that aim to improve disadvantaged pupils’ attainment or progression in science subjects at school. Proposals must be aimed at pupils aged between five and 16. Focus areas may include:

•pupils’ access to science resources;

•literacy in science;

•scientific reasoning tasks;

•practical science.

Researchers, school teachers, experts in informal learning and individuals working in an education setting, such as a charity, social enterprise or local authority, may apply. Applicants may be from the UK or overseas, but projects must take place in the UK and be applicable to the UK education system.

Funding is worth between £90,000 and £1.5 million per project over four years.
