The Wellcome Trust invites preliminary applications for the Sir Henry Wellcome postdoctoral fellowships. These enable newly qualified postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to start independent research careers, working in high quality research environments. Candidates are expected to identify a biomedical or population health research question and to develop the proposal and their scientific independence so as to go on to lead their own independent research.

Applicants must be in the final year of their PhD studies or be an early-career researcher with some initial postdoctoral experience. They must be a UK or European Economic Area national or have a PhD from a UK or Republic of Ireland university. Applicants must also have an eligible sponsoring institution in the UK or Republic of Ireland to administer the grant for the full tenure and to offer a mentor, who holds an established post at the host organisation, to provide independent support and advice.

Fellowships includes an award of £250,000 over four years on a full-time or part-time basis, covering the basic salary, fellowship supplement of £2,500 a year for personal support and research expenses.
