Bone health, the re-use of waste water and cosmology in the Middle Ages are among the research projects to be funded under the first Academies Partnership in Supporting Excellence in Cross-disciplinary Research (APEX) Awards.

The Royal Society announced six winners in the first round of the APEX Awards—financed by the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering; the Royal Society and the Leverhulme Trust—on 27 October.
The award was launched in November 2016 to support interdisciplinary research that is unlikely to be supported through conventional funding programmes.
