The Natural Environment Research Council, through Research Councils UK and supported by the National Productivity Investment Fund, invite applications for its industrial innovation fellowships. These support early-career researchers undertaking research aligned with the objectives of the Industrial Strategy and explore interdisciplinary solutions as well as address focused sectoral needs to the economic benefit of the UK. Research must demonstrate alignment with the challenge areas outlined in the Industrial Strategy or with the focus topics identified for the fellowships.

Early-career researchers in academia or industry who do not hold a leadership position within their organisation may apply. Applicants must have a PhD or are expected to receive intent to be awarded their PhD before the fellowship commences. They do not need to be based in the UK but all proposals must be submitted through and held at an UK HEI, research organisation or research council institute. All applications must include only one investigator and proposals should fall at least 50 per cent within the NERC science remit.

Fellowships are for three and a half years with up to 24 fellowships available. The total budget is £8.86 million and there are no funding limits for proposals.
