The British Ecological Society invites applications for its research grants. These support innovative ecological research and pump-priming projects, as well as helping early-career ecologists to establish an independent research career. Projects must have a clear ecological science focus. Two types of grants are available:

  • Small project grants, worth up to £5,000 each;
  • Early-career ecologists grants, worth up to £20,000 each, for investigators within five years of obtaining their PhD or DPhil and who do not hold permanent academic positions in universities or research institutes.

Individual members of the society may apply. There are no restrictions on nationality nor where the research can be carried out. Applications for projects based outside the UK must demonstrate liaison with collaborating organisations, local environmental agencies, non-governmental organisations or communities.

Funding may be used for the employment of casual and short-term assistance, the purchase of small items of equipment worth up to £2,000, consumables or recurrent costs and reasonable travel costs. Early-career grants may also support attendance to relevant conferences.

Deadline 5pm 11th September
