The AHRC and the EPSRC invite applications for their research and partnership call for the next generation of immersive experiences. This aims to develop a research programme to bring together organisations within the creative economy with researchers from both the arts and humanities communities and beyond, to ensure that the UK’s world leading creative industries and research sectors are able to fully understand, develop and exploit immersive technologies. The programme explores the new technology-enabled, multi-sensory, narrative, interpretative, and performance experiences that will drive future creative and commercial value through supporting interdisciplinary and intersectoral projects. Research proposals must explore immersive experiences in the following three focus areas:
• Memory – extending the access, interpretation and reach of memory-based institutions such as museums, galleries, archives and collections through new immersive experiences;
• Place – creating new experiences by the combination of immersive technology and place-based services;
• Performance – new creative practices enabled by immersive technology, new experiences that may be offered to audiences and transforming or extending models of performance.
All project teams must include academic researchers in disciplines appropriate to addressing the breadth of the challenges plus non-academic partners who are looking to develop new products and services in these areas. The PI must be based in the UK, be actively engaged in postdoctoral research and be of postdoctoral standing.
The total budget is £1.88 million. Projects are worth up to £75,000 each and may last between six and nine months.
