EPSRC to change rules of First Grants scheme The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council will modify the conditions of its First Grants scheme from July, its governing body has decided. According to a statement on 1 June, the scheme will be revised to recognise the different needs of each of the research areas it supports. Although the EPSRC did not detail the changes it plans to implement, it said it aimed to lift “some of the current restrictions”. More information will be provided to research officers next month and will be published soon, the council added. As non-governmental public bodies, the research councils are bound by the purdah rules, which restrict the information they can release ahead of the general election on 8 June
