Research Councils UK has announced a funding call to improve public engagement with research in higher education institutions.
In a press release on 20 April, RCUK said that the Strategic Support to Expedite Embedding Public Engagement with Research (SEE-PER) will have a budget of £700,000 and will support between 10 and 15 projects during this financial year, up to April 2018.
Although the complete guidelines of this call will not be published until the end of May, RCUK is encouraging potential applicants to start developing relationships with other departments in their institutions that may want to be involved.
Universities will be asked to demonstrate their readiness to improve public engagement around the research they do. In addition, high levels of institutional commitment will be expected. A strong letter of support from a university’s vice-chancellor would increase the applicants’ chances, RCUK said.
Proposals will be assessed in the summer, with the goal of having the funded projects start by 1 October.
