\"LS0571<\/a>As part of our #FindYourFeet<\/strong> campaign, we are sharing Twelve Tips of Christmas to help you find your feet around the library and make the most of our services!<\/p>\n

\n

Tip #1: Print Anywhere<\/h2>\n

Did you know you can register your UniCard to one of our MFD printers? To register swipe your UniCard against an MFD and manually enter your student username and password (you only need to do this once) and then simply swipe to print, copy or scan at any<\/u><\/strong> machine!<\/p>\n

Card not chipped?<\/strong> If your UniCard is blank on the back then you may have a temporary non-chipped card. Please take it to the FM Helpdesk at the Durning Centre<\/a> who will swap it for a free replacement chipped card.<\/p>\n

\"printing\"<\/a>Top up print credit online by logging into GO<\/a> and selecting Add printer credits here<\/strong> from the Printing<\/strong> tab. You can instantly load \u00a31 to \u00a320 using a credit or debit card. Top up with cash at the library Help Desk during desk opening h<\/a>ours<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n

Tip #2: Self Service<\/h2>\n

Issuing and returning has never been easier – all you need is your UniCard and the item(s) you wish to loan! There are two self-issue and one giant returns machine located in the library foyer that will guide you through each step…watch this video<\/a> to find out more!<\/p>\n

\n

Tip #3: PC Availability App<\/h2>\n

\"PC<\/a>The PC availability app is a quick and easy way to locate free PCs in the University Library and LINC building \u2013 it updates every 5 seconds<\/strong> so you\u2019ll always be kept in the loop!\u00a0We even have a screen in the library foyer for quick viewing or check it out here ehu.ac.uk\/computers<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

Tip #4: Student Advisors<\/h2>\n

The Student Advisors, who are based at the Ask Desk<\/strong> on the first floor of the University Library, are current Edge Hill students who provide flexible support in and around the Library (and sometimes the wider campus too!) look out for the purple t-shirts!<\/p>\n

From quick queries when looking for your course books to more in-depth support using Learning Edge or referencing the team are available to share their experiences to help you Monday to Friday (11am \u2013 4pm)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

Tip #5: Media Students & Media Kit<\/h2>\n

Media students* did you know you can loan media equipment from the library?<\/p>\n

To access the wide range of professional broadcast quality media equipment<\/a> head to the Learning Services webpages and complete the online form<\/a> providing three working days<\/strong> notice. Requested equipment is collected from the library Help Desk, loaned for two days<\/strong> at a time and must be returned <\/strong>before 9pm<\/strong> weekdays <\/strong>or before 6pm weekends<\/strong>. \n

Tip #6: Study Room Bookings<\/h2>\n

Did you know you can book a study room at Ormskirk University Library?<\/p>\n

There are 4 bookable group rooms on the ground floor, 10 individual study rooms on the 1st<\/sup> floor and 10 individual study rooms on the 2nd<\/sup> floor. You can book up to 3 hours in any room on any one day and up to 2 weeks in advance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Simply visit Room Bookings<\/a><\/strong> and log in…or alternately visit the My Library<\/strong> tab in Learning Edge and follow the Book a room<\/strong> link on the right hand side of the page.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Choose which type of room you wish to book and select 1, 2 or 3 hours. It\u2019s as simple as that!<\/p>\n

If you no longer require your room please cancel your booking ASAP to allow other people access.<\/p>\n

Please note booked rooms will be offered to other students, and your booking for the remaining hour cancelled, if you are later than 15 minutes for your booking.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

\"Tip<\/a>Tip #7: Reservations<\/h2>\n

If an item you are looking for is not available <\/strong><\/span>on our shelves then you can place a reservation. As soon as a copy is available you will recieve an email to your University email account.<\/p>\n

When placing a reservation if you cannot see Ormskirk<\/strong><\/span> on the drop down \u2018deliver to\u2019 menu this means a copy is available on the shelves…you can come in and pick this up immediately, so why wait!<\/p>\n

\n

Tip #8: Laptop Loans<\/h2>\n

\"laptop<\/a>We have 36 laptops avalable for loan 24 hours\u00a0a day from the self service unit in the library foyer. Loaning couldn’t be easier, all you need is your UniCard – tap borrow<\/strong> on the screen and follow the simple directions! If you need any help just ask the Help Desk staff.<\/p>\n

\n

Tip #9: Finding Books & Reading Lists<\/h2>\n

The University library contains over 370,000 books and ebooks which can be found by searching the\u00a0library catalogue<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When you have chosen a book,\u00a0make a note of the location (e.g. University Library 2nd Floor)<\/em>\u00a0and shelfmark including any letters (e.g. 006.696 MEN)<\/em>. Use these details to find the book on the shelf – this short video will show you how…<\/a><\/p>\n

Reading Lists Online<\/a> provides access to the reading lists for your courses and modules, as provided by your lecturers. Find your lists by searching for module names, module codes or even by your lecturer’s name…or just try browsing! Your online reading list will take you to the Library Catalogue or will link through to the full text for many eBooks & eJournals.<\/p>\n

Tip #10: UniSkills<\/h2>\n

\"Uniskills<\/a>UniSkills is a package of\u00a0workshops<\/strong>, hands-on<\/strong> support<\/strong>, interactive<\/strong> toolkits<\/strong> and online<\/strong> guides<\/strong> created to help you develop a range of\u00a0essential academic skills\u00a0and to enable you to produce high quality University assignments. UniSkills covers core academic skills such as planning<\/strong> your assignment, referencing<\/strong>, academic<\/strong> writing<\/strong>, finding academic resources<\/strong>, dissertations<\/strong> and more<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Tip #11: Box of Broadcasts (BoB)<\/h2>\n

Box of Broadcasts<\/a>\u00a0is an on\u00a0demand TV and radio<\/strong>\u00a0service for education and can even be cited in your assignments! It enables you to record from over\u00a065 free-to-air channels<\/strong>\u00a0including\u00a0BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four, ITV, Channel 4, Film4 and more! You can also search an extensive archive of over\u00a02 million<\/strong>\u00a0broadcasts from last night all the way back to the 1990\u2019s!<\/p>\n

Available across all desktop, android and iOS\u00a0devices you can\u00a0watch live, request or record programmes<\/strong>. \"bob\"<\/a>BoB is intuitive and simple to use so you may find you can start straight away. (We\u2019ve even put together a Winter Watching<\/a> playlist for you to tuck into!) Tip #12: Study Apps<\/h2>\n

Whether it’s note taking, assignment planning or trying to read as many articles as possible for your assignment, it\u2019s easy to become overwhelmed by your ever increasing workload. Why not try these\u00a0handy Study Apps<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to help you along the way \u2013 they\u2019re all free to download and easy to use…<\/p>\n
