{"id":4170,"date":"2012-06-01T12:41:01","date_gmt":"2012-06-01T11:41:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/ls\/?p=4170"},"modified":"2012-06-01T16:00:29","modified_gmt":"2012-06-01T15:00:29","slug":"learning-services-staff-team-up-with-radio-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/ls\/2012\/06\/01\/learning-services-staff-team-up-with-radio-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning Services staff team up with Radio 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today sees the results of the Radio 2 Short Story Competition with Chris Evans.<\/p>\n<p>In March, two of our Learning Services staff, Helen Jamieson and Rita McWilliam volunteered as judges for the competition.\u00a0 Helen read stories for the over nines while Rita read for the younger group.\u00a0 Both were impressed by the high standard of writing and the imagination the children brought to their stories.\u00a0 Both fed their comments to Chris Evans and his panel of expert judges who have now chosen the winners from the shortlist. The top 50 entries will be published on the BBC Radio 2 webpage and prizes were given out today at the Hay Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly Oxford University Press is using the competition entries as a basis for research into children\u2019s language today. They will collect and analyse all the words in the stories and explore how the children use language; pick out their favourite words, and discover new words!
