14-18 October. Embrace, Support, Empower: Raising awareness of neurodivergence .<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

As our event in 2023<\/a> was such a success, here we are again, delivering workshops, raising awareness and giving out free squishy brains to Embrace, Support and Empower Neurodivergence and Neurodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, feedback suggested our event was interesting and enlightening as well as informative, important and insightful in raising awareness and providing information and a great selection of resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year was also the launch of our toolkits which aimed to empower staff and students to develop knowledge and have conversations regarding differences but most of all, to learn about themselves and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to the increases in people exploring neurodivergence, the SpLD team is hosting a collaborative event for staff and students to learn more about. We hope the event will highlight strategies for support and embrace people\u2019s differences. <\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n


SPLD Drop in<\/strong>

Come and meet our SpLD Advisors\u202fon the ground floor events space in Catalyst to explore different study stations, stationery, strategies and interactive activities. There will also be a chance to work with the team to develop your own personal Venn diagram exploring your learning, sensory and cognitive profile.  Staff will be available Monday and Friday to meet with students - 10-12 and 2-4 Monday and Friday.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Toolkits <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SpLD Team have been working with students and colleagues over the last year to develop a suite of toolkits aimed at supporting students to build autonomy and explore differences to build study skills strategies and confidence. Learning about how we learn best can be transformative and we hope these resources can support students in that journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Introduction to Neurodiversity<\/a>   <\/td>Meet with the team to find out more about definitions, conditions and prevalence surrounding neurodiversity. Universal Design for Learning<\/a>  
<\/td>		John Brindle \u2013  During this session you will be given an overview of the Universal Design for Learning framework. This will be coupled with practical examples of how to implement some of the practice in your own learning and teaching. The UDL framework has just been updated to version 3.0 and takes a more holistic approach to inclusive learning design that can appeal to a wide range of students from both a neurodivergence\/disability lens and a social justice approach.
 
This will be an interactive workshop where you can explore your practice and find out what you are already doing while discovering new nudges to practice that can help support all students to become purposeful and motivated, resourceful and knowledgeable, and strategic and goal directed.

ADHD with a twist<\/a>
<\/td>		Join our Learning Support Advisors, Louise and Ellie to explore ADHD\/ADD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder\/Attention Deficit Disorder). Topics covered within this session will include; common and \u2018under the surface\u2019 characteristics of ADHD \/ ADD, strengths based discussions about learning as well as advice and guidance around strategies and tools for learning and life. Additionally, Louise and Ellie will be providing insight into impacts on emotional regulation and how students can implement mindfulness, stress relief and mood booster strategies.

This session will provide a safe space for students to share their experiences, ask questions and absorb information to better understand, support and embrace themselves and others.
