Whether you’re writing a dissertation, a thesis, or a book chapter or scientific paper, one of the biggest challenges may not be doing the research, or even writing it up – but actually finding time<\/em> to write.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is where our Student Advisors Elizabeth and David can help. They run a monthly Research Writing Group which provides focussed writing time, to help you get it done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is it for?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Anyone doing research. You might be an academic or a postgraduate researcher (PGR) but you don’t have to be. This is for anyone doing research!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does it work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The format is simple. Join us in Oak Room, Catalyst from 12pm for a warm welcome and free coffee and cake (you’re welcome to bring your own food too). Elizabeth and David will introduce the session and set you up for focussed writing time. At 2pm, there’ll be some optional time to chat about your writing with others and share tips and tactics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On each date we also run a second, teatime session in the same room (5-7pm). This doesn’t have the social element at the end, but does <\/em>have an online option, so you can join us via Microsoft Teams if you prefer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no need to register, just join us when you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elizabeth Devine and David Locke are postgraduate researchers (PGRs) currently writing up their PhDs. They know all about the writing for research process, and how to create a positive, motivational writing environment, so you can do your best work. As the programme progresses, we’ll listen to your ideas and refine the format to work for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I come to both sessions?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Yes! The more the merrier. The lunchtime sessions (12-3pm) take place in Oak Room and the teatime sessions (5-7pm) do too. However, you could choose to join the teatime sessions either in the room OR online via Microsoft Teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When do these take place?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once per month, every month from January to September 2023. After this we’ll review the programme and decide whether to keep going or adjust the format. The next date is Monday 6 March<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can I join the teatime Microsoft Teams session?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Register for the online session using our Eventbrite page<\/a>.
