The aim was to provide a space to discuss user-friendly, research-based articles about online teaching and learning. The group provides a <strong>valuable opportunity to actively and critically consider what it means to teach in a virtual world.<\/strong> It is ideal for people who have been forced to rush headlong into online teaching and want time to reflect and discuss their practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/ls\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2021\/06\/June-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15598\" width=\"409\" height=\"571\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/ls\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2021\/06\/June-1.png 473w, https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/ls\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2021\/06\/June-1-215x300.png 215w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><figcaption>Invitation to the Teaching Online Reading Group <br>reading link: <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2Sw60FI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">http:\/\/bit.ly\/2Sw60FI<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why an online reading group?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Learning takes place through social interaction and individuals learn by expressing their questions and pursuing lines of inquiry together (Hillen, 2014). Our aim is therefore to provide a supportive space where we can discuss, reflect and share professionally supportive dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does our online reading group work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-2f4c1965-6635-4b8d-ac5d-7fe71dd70c37\">We don\u2019t look for heavy, theoretical framework pieces, articles are chosen from <strong>Library and Learning Services<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edgehill.ac.uk\/ls\/discover-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Discover More<\/a> database and act as a springboard for a more wide-ranging discussion of practice. These conversations and comparisons help us to think collectively about what it might mean for our own practices. The freedom of this informal communication in a small group can enable participants to shape expectations of themselves and others and help define their role (Jaber &amp; Kennedy, 2017).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No sessions are recorded, it is a <strong>safe collaborative community area<\/strong> (Bruffee,1995).
