Elsevier ScienceDirect Negotiations

UK Universities are coming to the end of 5-year agreement with Elsevier which provides Edge Hill staff and students with access to more than 1,800 journals on the Elsevier ScienceDirect platform. Edge Hill are part of a UK-wide consortium that is working in partnership with Jisc to negotiate a new deal for 2022 and beyond after the current agreement expires on 31 December 2021. The negotiations are aiming to secure a transformative journal agreement, otherwise known as a ‘Read and publish’ (R&P) deal that seeks to constrain costs and ensure full and immediate open access to UK research published by Elsevier.

Result of the trial for Pier Professional Journals

At the end of last year we had a trial of the complete collection of Journals from Pier Professional. Pier Professional publishes journals in healthcare, social care and allied fields. There are 23 journals in the collection. Feedback was positive and a decision was made to take out a subscription for the whole collection.  New titles include Journal of Children’s Services, Mental Health and Social Inclusion, Journal of Integrated Care and Journal of Assistive Technologies. Online access back to the first issue is available. The entire collection can be searched as a full text database or each journal can be browsed separately. All titles have been added to the library catalogue and the collection can be accessed here. At the end of 2011 we will review our usage statistics and make a decision whether to renew in 2012.

New Education Database: 1300 full text journals

We have taken out a subscription to Education Research Complete. The database provides the full text for over 1,300 journals, as well as indexing and abstracts for more than 2,200 journals. This database also includes full text for more than 550 books and monographs, and full text for numerous education-related conference papers. ERC covers all aspects of the curriculum as well as administration, policy, funding, and related social issues. Links to all 1300 journals have been addd to the library catalogue. You can access it at Education Research Complete.

New JSTOR Collections Available

We have added 2 new JSTOR collections.  Arts & Sciences III includes journals in languages and literature, as well as essential titles in the fields of music, film studies, folklore, performing arts, religion, and the history and study of art and architecture. There are 151 titles in this collection. The 180 titles in Arts & Sciences VII cover a range of disciplines in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. These include research in core disciplines such as history, political science, sociology, art and art history, and language and literature, and the collection represents the largest cluster of health policy titles in JSTOR. All titles have been added to the library catalogue and can be found at JSTOR Collections
