Monday<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"A<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Today was the start of my third week of a 12-week internship. I woke up at 7:30 am to get ready for the day. I had some peanut butter on toast, with a glass of water for breakfast. Once the time struck 8:45 am I turned on my laptop ready to get started. I made a Gantt chart to help plan my time and on it the next allocated task was to make the documents for a module fully accessible by Wednesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Helping others is my passion, therefore, making documents accessible so people with disabilities can read the contents of the documents clearly.\u00a0Completing the Word documents and PowerPoints\u00a0ensured\u00a0that\u00a0the process of making the documents\u00a0was smooth\u00a0sailing as\u00a0they are\u00a0the\u00a0easiest\u00a0type of documents\u00a0to make 100% accessible.\u00a0The templates\u00a0sped up making the documents fully accessible because\u00a0font styles\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0layout\u00a0were already set, putting me in a good mood.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also\u00a0attended a\u00a0UniSkills\u00a0Webinar<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0academic\u00a0resilience.\u00a0Resilience\u00a0is something I often struggle with, even\u00a0though my\u00a0grades\u00a0are\u00a0consistently\u00a0in the\u00a080s I still\u00a0feel unconfident with my abilities.\u00a0In the\u00a0Webinar\u00a0I got asked to score myself on how confident I felt about my resilience,\u00a0I scored\u00a0a\u00a04. However, the result of the\u00a0Webinar\u00a0increased this score to 8 – I know right, double the score,\u00a0wow!\u00a0I would highly recommend attending,\u00a0it\u00a0made me feel like a better student. Overall, today was an amazing experience and I can\u2019t wait to get back to it tomorrow.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday\u00a0was yet another very enjoyable day.\u00a0Andrew (my colleague)\u00a0and I got most of the documents 100% accessible for one module in two working days,\u00a0I am excited because we are prepared\u00a0now\u00a0ready for the meeting tomorrow.\u00a0I\u00a0am\u00a0on the\u00a0autistic\u00a0spectrum, which means\u00a0I find it challenging to communicate\u00a0with\u00a0others. However, my\u00a0colleague\u00a0was\u00a0very welcoming from the start, which allowed me to feel a lot more comfortable.\u00a0This\u00a0made my confidence\u00a0with communication\u00a0skyrocket. Therefore, my communication skills have\u00a0improved through\u00a0this internship and we\u00a0are\u00a0only\u00a0a few\u00a0weeks in!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also attended a creating interactive video and media content training session. As a Computing student, I always love learning how to use new software and Web applications. Canva and Sparks, are online applications where you can create your very own interactive video presentations, from loads of templates. The most surprising tool is in Microsoft PowerPoint, where you can record your presentation slides with your webcam, I did not know you could do that! These training sessions are indeed very useful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"A<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Finally, I\u00a0attended\u00a0a Careers workshop<\/a> hosted by Claire, a Careers Advisor,\u00a0to make the\u00a0perfect CV.\u00a0She was very welcoming\u00a0and went through these\u00a0useful\u00a0guidelines: two pages max, relevant and other work experience,\u00a0include your hobbies\u00a0and most relevant information first, which\u00a0all of you should take advantage of\u00a0next time\u00a0you\u00a0make a CV.\u00a0Overall, today was a fantastic, productive day and I\u2019m looking forward to the meeting tomorrow.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I woke up raring to face another day! Only one long PDF document had to be made accessible by adding and editing some tags and adding alt text to the images, we also created the learning episodes for the module, so students can have easy navigation of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Attending meetings is a little difficult for me, I often find it difficult to locate the right words to say I was a slightly nervous for the meeting.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the clock\u00a0strikes\u00a02,\u00a0Andrew and I\u00a0joined\u00a0the meeting and started talking about how we\u00a0have\u00a0been getting on this week.\u00a0I was very glad to hear\u00a0my department are\u00a0very happy with what we\u00a0have\u00a0accomplished over the past 2 days\u00a0and were\u00a0not\u00a0expecting\u00a0us\u00a0to get most of the documents 100%\u00a0accessible – hearing that I was doing\u00a0an\u00a0excellent job\u00a0it\u00a0raised\u00a0my\u00a0communication\u00a0confidence a great deal.\u00a0The only\u00a0thing that needed attention were the lecture slides, the bullet point style needs to be changed,\u00a0Ally was\u00a0not\u00a0showing\u00a0it\u00a0correctly.\u00a0\u00a0I left the day with a huge\u00a0smile on my face\u00a0and tomorrow is another road to success, it can only get better from here!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, Thursday is the most productive day of the week because I\u2019m far enough into it, where I\u2019m in the zone of my work and know what exactly I had to be getting on with. I took initiative and created a master slide template that works for all lecture slides to be viewed as intended on Ally. I showed my colleague and he was very pleased with the result, he tested the template, told me it worked. In addition, we will be able to race through the lecture slides. I felt glad that my solution would make our lives easier over the remaining 8 weeks of the internship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also had an interesting training session on the web application software Padlet and Wakelet. Padlet and Wakelet allow you to create walls and others can post on them. These are an exciting addition to the students learning as lecturers cause them to allow their students to participate in discussions, share ideas, reflect on their learning and more! I\u2019m all about that! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/learning<\/a>One of my\u00a0favourite\u00a0parts of the internship is being able to learn on my\u00a0own time during working hours, I don\u2019t have to be\u00a0consistently\u00a0working\u00a0on creating learning\u00a0episodes\u00a0or working on\u00a0accessibility. So, in the last hour of the day,\u00a0I decided to make a start on\u00a0the\u00a0Communicating with\u00a0Confidence<\/em>\u00a0course<\/a> on LinkedIn Learning<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s hard to believe a third of the internship will be completed by the end of today – time has really flown by.\u00a0I spent the day making Word documents and PowerPoints accessible and completing\u00a0the LinkedIn Learning course. This is a fantastic course – I would highly recommend it! It\u2019s\u00a0given me some useful\u00a0strategies\u00a0like breathing, using your hands to make yourself calmer to be a confident communicator.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"The<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting is part of being a Student Intern, it\u2019s\u00a0really useful\u00a0for seeing how much I have progressed over the week, for me,\u00a0it\u2019s my\u00a0working speed. The work I produce is usually at a high standard, but my work pace is slow; my action plan is\u00a0to\u00a0use a stopwatch to time myself how long it takes to make\u00a0all\u00a0documents accessible. If I use that strategy, I\u2019m sure my work speed will improve to make me a better employee in the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end of the day,\u00a0I left, with a smile on my face and looking forward to working with my fellow Student Interns next week\u00a0– I can\u2019t wait!\u00a0Keep an eye out for\u00a0Rachel\u2019s blog coming out soon, you won\u2019t want to miss it!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
