{"id":64,"date":"2010-06-16T10:58:26","date_gmt":"2010-06-16T09:58:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/vleproject\/?p=64"},"modified":"2012-02-21T16:36:37","modified_gmt":"2012-02-21T16:36:37","slug":"the-story-so-far%e2%80%a6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/2010\/06\/16\/the-story-so-far%e2%80%a6\/","title":{"rendered":"The Story So Far\u2026."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The team have been working over the past few weeks to bring together all the feedback and comments the VLE has generated.\u00a0 We thought this would be a good time to share some of those points.<\/p>\n<p>The review has captured views of staff and students in a variety of ways and this has been a very interesting process for all those involved.\u00a0 You will recall we have undertaken a number of events which included focus group style sessions with academics to see what would be important in the future Edge Hill VLE, the most important teaching and learning tools they would want to use, a comprehensive staff survey to allow for further comment and then the\u00a0 presentation event 3 weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>The event showcased..warts and all..both Blackboard and Moodle.\u00a0 Here are some of the staff comments:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Blackboard..the good<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Familiarity<\/p>\n<p>Drag and Drop<\/p>\n<p>Professional look and feel<\/p>\n<p>The migration wouldn\u2019t seem problematic<\/p>\n<p>Navigation intuitive<\/p>\n<p>365\/24\/7 support<\/p>\n<p>Selective release of content<\/p>\n<p>More organised<\/p>\n<p>Empty folders don\u2019t show in student view<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Blackboard\u2026not so positive<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speed of student down loads<\/p>\n<p>Add-ins have to be paid for<\/p>\n<p>Technical issues still exist ie Java<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Moodle\u2026the good<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Use of communication with announcements pushed to email<\/p>\n<p>Forums<\/p>\n<p>Linear<\/p>\n<p>Looks easy, similar design to Google<\/p>\n<p>Intuitive<\/p>\n<p>Looks as if its more interactive<\/p>\n<p>No Java used<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Moodle..the not so good<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Busy\/cluttered<\/p>\n<p>Wordy<\/p>\n<p>Too many boxes<\/p>\n<p>Looked dull<\/p>\n<p>Seems complex<\/p>\n<p>Linear<\/p>\n<p>No selective release<\/p>\n<p>Migration<\/p>\n<p>The afternoon was very useful for all those involved and the comments from staff are very important but of course not everyone could attend and we did only see a small snap shot with the perspective of those two universities. \u00a0Testing will help tease out some of the detail behind all the comments above<\/p>\n<p>The next stage is to have a sand pit\/play area where we will have sample courses set up will be asking staff to get involved in testing out the main functions and adding content.\u00a0 As soon as this is ready we will let everyone know and try to get staff and students from all our faculties involved.<\/p>\n<p>Please post your views if you were at the event or want to get involved in the sand pit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The team have been working over the past few weeks to bring together all the feedback and comments the VLE has generated.\u00a0 We thought this would be a good time to share some of those points.
