{"id":6151,"date":"2018-03-04T15:28:08","date_gmt":"2018-03-04T15:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/?p=6151"},"modified":"2019-10-09T10:11:05","modified_gmt":"2019-10-09T09:11:05","slug":"bite-sized-lecture-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/2018\/03\/04\/bite-sized-lecture-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Bite-sized Lecture Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edgehill.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edge Hill University<\/a> value the support they receive whist studying here, so much that they tell us how important that support is, each year through the National Student Survey.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2015\/12\/AWright-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4697\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2015\/12\/AWright-1-125x150.jpg\" alt=\"Andrea Wright\" width=\"130\" height=\"154\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Edge Hill has a diverse student population and recognises the importance of innovative approaches to teaching and learning which are both inclusive\u00a0and supportive.<\/p>\n<p>Since the introduction of Panopto software in 2016, more and more <a href=\"http:\/\/eshare.edgehill.ac.uk\/11960\/31\/Panopto%20Enabled%20Teaching%20Rooms.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">areas of the University are being provisioned<\/a> and many more students are benefiting\u00a0from access to recorded lecture content.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andrea Wright (Senior Lecturer &#8211; Film Studies), introduced her students to recordings of taught sessions to encourage engagement and shared understanding of her topics.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Andrea\u2019s approach to using Panopto, means that her students can review lectures in manageable bite-sized videos.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/LS0716-BiteSized-Lecture-Series-2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6152 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/LS0716-BiteSized-Lecture-Series-2-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"BiteSized Lecture Series\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/LS0716-BiteSized-Lecture-Series-2-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/LS0716-BiteSized-Lecture-Series-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/LS0716-BiteSized-Lecture-Series-2-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/LS0716-BiteSized-Lecture-Series-2-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/LS0716-BiteSized-Lecture-Series-2.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the statistics gathered over two years of using Panopto, Andrea is able to see when students are making use of her bit-sized recordings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/Panopto-Stats_FLM3023.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6171 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/Panopto-Stats_FLM3023.jpg\" alt=\"Panopto Bar Graph Session Stats\" width=\"791\" height=\"841\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/Panopto-Stats_FLM3023.jpg 791w, https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/Panopto-Stats_FLM3023-282x300.jpg 282w, https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/learningedge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2018\/02\/Panopto-Stats_FLM3023-768x817.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 791px) 100vw, 791px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Consistently, the peak periods of use are around assessment time and prior to submission deadlines. Students are using the recordings as a support mechanism and revision tool, to check key terms, concepts and understanding of the topic.<\/p>\n<p>Andrea also states<strong> <span style=\"color: #009ee2\"><em>\u201cfollowing the introduction of Panopto in 2016, there is certainly some evidence of students attaining slightly better in the modules.
