Tab-tastic! Blackboard now has staff specific resources!

We’ve received many suggestions from both students and staff over the years in relation to the development of Blackboard and its customisation. Since the University acquired the Community Engagement component for Blackboard in 2013 we have been able to tailor the online experience for all different users across the institution. Since the summer you will have noticed the enhanced information, tab areas and the more appealing visual look to the VLE overall.

One of the tabs we added was specifically designed for University Staff. When you go into Blackboard, you’ll notice a new tab labelled ‘Staff’.

This area features a range of useful resources with useful e-learning information, staff development, recent topics, user guides, including a best of TEL spotlight showcasing examples of good teaching practice. There is also enhanced help for faculty specific areas, with additional sub tabs embedded at the top of the staff ‘Tab’.

As this is a new feature for staff, we are always looking for your feedback into its future development. With this, you may notice we have added a ‘Staff Tab Feedback’ item on the right side of the page. Here you can send us any suggestions or ideas by clicking on the small plus icon in the corner.

We hope you’ll find the tab useful and we look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions soon!

Tab-tastic! Learning Edge now has faculty specific resources!

For new and returning students, there is something different in Learning Edge for this year!

For those returning, you may remember the Learning Services tab within Learning Edge, but now there is something even more special for each Faculty and Department for you to use.

The old tab has been replaced by Your FoHSC Resources, Your FoE Resources or Your FAS Resources.  Each one has specific resources tailored towards your Faculty and course so that you only get the most relevant information for your studies.

In each tab you will find panels full of useful information about your subject including videos, Twitter feeds, guides and quick links to the most needed materials (such as Referencing, Academic Skills, Journals, reading lists and more!)

Keep an eye on these tabs as they will be dynamically updated to bring you the most relevant information depending on the time of year and will also change depending on what you are asking for to be included.  Just use Ask Us to let us know your ideas.

If you need any help please contact the Learning Services Help Desk based in the library.

Learning Edge Gets Community Engagement

Following the recent acquisition (Oct 2013) of Blackboard Community Engagement, an add on to our current Blackboard Learn 9.1 platform, Learning Services will be working with staff across the university to improve the design and functionality of Learning Edge.

This screencast showcases how the new features, which include personalised Tabs, Panels and Organisations, could be developed to enhance our Learning Edge facilities, for current and prospective students, staff, alumni and other guests.

Learning Technology Development will be holding face-to-face and live online web-conference demonstrations over the next few weeks. In addition discussions will take place at Faculty TEL Steering Groups and the team hope to attend team meetings and speak with interested individuals about the potential of Community.

If you would like to arrange a meeting to discuss how your department could benefit from these new Community features, please speak with your faculty Learning Technologist directly or email ltdsupport@edgehill.ac.uk.
