“Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it”

Harry Potter fans amongst you all will recognise the title of this entry, as a quote from Professor Albus Dumbledore, who is of course the headmaster of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry in the harry potter series. I thought I’d use this particular quote from him because the topic of the month for June is about the support that is on offer to all students at Edge Hill University.

Support at edge hill university comes in many forms. One form of support I have used since starting Edge Hill is the tutors in my department. When you arrive in first year you are assigned a personal tutor, a member of staff from within your course department you can turn to and discuss things with when you feel you need some guidance on academic issues. As well as seeing your personal tutor you can also arrange to see a particular tutor if you’re struggling with an assignment. The tutors within your department aren’t the only place you can seek help form. Other ways you can seek help include

The counseling service (https://www.edgehill.ac.uk/studentservices/counselling/)

Based in Milton House on Ruff Lane (at the back of University) they’ll assist you with personal/non-academic matters.

Learning services (http://www.edgehill.ac.uk/ls/)

Based in the library, they can also help with assignments or if you’re struggling to locate a resource in the library

The Student’s Union (http://www.edgehillsu.org.uk)

They are a group of people elected by students, and are the voice of the student population of Edge Hill. They can assist with accommodation matters, financial matters, help you get more time to complete an assignment and generally point you in the right direction. They also organise events and provide advice if you want to set up your own society/club.

Student information centre

This is a building next to the main university library and is where careers, student finance, academic registry, accommodation and other teams are based. It is a valuable port of call when you are seeking help with something.

I hope this blog has calmed any fears you may have about coming to university. If you want to ask me anything then leave me a comment and I’ll get back to you.
