Claire spent 14 years as a registered social worker in a local authority, much of this with adults with learning disabilities but later in her career on a generic adult social work team. Claire has worked as both a practitioner and in a management capacity and is a qualified and experienced Practice Educator.

While in practice Claire was engaged with projects specifically targeted at supporting older parent carers of adults with learning disabilities and from 2009 onwards was engaged with Edge Hill across several programmes in both a Visiting lecturer and Associate Tutor capacity.

Since taking up a full time lecturer post within the Department of Social Work in 2014, Claire has had module lead responsibilities across several programmes including BA/MA Social Work and Nurse Social Work in areas including ‘Complex Needs and Learning Disability’, ‘Specialist Social Work Practice with Adults’ and ‘What is Social Work’. Claire is year 1 lead for the BA Social Work Programme.

Claire retains her links to practice and is part of the Learning Disability Steering Group for Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

Claire’s current research interests include Practice Education and Practice Learning in social work.
