I love Saturdays. I never work Saturday mornings or days so I am guaranteed a lie in- which I took full advantage of today. Had a brilliant night last night also; ventured into Liverpool with two friends for a Chinese all you can eat buffet at the cheeky price of just under £9, then moved onto a tequila bar….I didn’t have any! And then onto O’Neils (one of Liverpool’s finest Irish bars, which is funny as my friend who was out is Irish!) where we watched/listened to an amazing Irish band that played a bunch of absolute tunes- we literally sang the night away! Then we jumped on the last train back to Ormskirk and reflected on the hilarity of the evening which had started out as just a few drinks after Friday lecture. All in all in a very happy mood!!! So hope your weekends are going well and that you’ve all had lie ins today too 🙂
Ha! Cheesy title to start the week, but a true one nevertheless. Yeah, today was fairly manic I guess…but motivational- a different ‘m’ word… erm. Well yeah anyway, it was a long but nice Monday. Had Digital Shorts module, went through film festivals with Owen who repeatedly told us to make weird films and submit them to festivals and pretty much to just DO IT! And then at 1:00 PM I had a meeting with a group called Artz Academy who do work with kids through the arts (haha), and can offer experience for young people like myself in helping with that work and being part of their team. It all sounds really interesting and I am more than glad I went to the meeting, came away feeling very excited and optimistic! I found the company at one of Edge Hills MANY, many, careers fairs by the way- always useful to swing by The Hub when one is happening to see who is about.
Anyway it’s bed time for me! Might watch Rizzoli and Isles before I do drop off though….would be rude not to….. ehem….
Thank goodness it’s Friday indeed! There’s nothing better than laying in bed on a Saturday morning really is there? No. That’s all I’m thinking about. Today’s a pretty nice day too: got Analysing Audiences 1-5, which is all about research methods- if any of you are doing sociology or business you get it! But it looks at methodologies in terms of media research so it is rather interesting… Then tonight I am going out with some friends for a well deserved drink! So all in all good times- only issue is I’m worried that if I stand still I’ll turn into an icicle! What is this weather???????
Well it may not be near you, but it certainly is here up north westerly ways! I don’t actually live on the Edge Hill campus or in Ormskirk but I have it on good word that the fog has also graced our lovely university! I love fog, it looks awesome. But this isn’t really a post about fog; this post relates to how pretty Edge Hill looks. See, although I am not there now, I have experienced Edge Hill fog- it’s lovely. Rain, sleet, snow, shine, wind, hail… it doesn’t matter. The campus has this brilliant charm and just always looks welcoming and like a postcard or something! Anyway, hope you’re enjoying the weather. No snow here but if you have been graced with the awesomeness that is snow make a snow man for me! But be safe…. 🙂
Argh, this is a greatly belated blog, sorry! On Friday I saw Jennifer Saunders! Dr Jennifer Saunders, as I should call her, is now part of Edge Hill’s alumni (awesome) and as far as I am aware it’s due to her connection with Professor Tanya Byron who is the university’s 1st chancellor- woo! Anyway Tanya and Jennifer did a sort of talk show-esque event last Friday. It was ticket only, but the tickets were free!!! They spoke about Jennifer’s life, her work, briefly on her breast cancer experience (I personally thought they spoke about it very respectfully, but lightheartedly too) and also about a charity she is involved with. I was much too nervous to ask her a question, and I am regretful of that- I can’t stop coming up with questions even now a week later! But nevertheless I was absolutely made up with the event and opportunity!
Needless to say I was blown away, not just by Jennifer but also by Tanya Byron who I have since researched about and have definitely discovered a new role model in. These spectacular women were equally hilarious, charming and clearly, very intellectual.
This is a very blatant big up for the university but here are two clear examples why I love Edge Hill: firstly the opportunities it offers, certainly for media students, and secondly the people who sort of run it, and are connected to it; highly professional, intellectual and innovative- to say the least. Anyway, I’m still swooning!
Hope you’re having a good week and are enjoying this cold, cold, cold…weather.
My title of course refers to myself, even now as I type my eyes are drooping. But I will soldier on! Today marked the second week of me co-hosting L:39 show with fellow broadcaster Dom! All I can say is that we have a brilliant time, so much fun. It’s pretty much a chill out session with some ace tunes and some wicked shout outs to our loyal listeners. I’m on the radio on a Weds, but no university- you may ask why I do this and my answer is simple; I am hoping it will encourage me to visit the library more through the week. It’s true. However I am yet to do so…still early days mind!
Anyway, bed time for me! Hope you’re all excellent and haven’t been too cold in our belated winter weather!!!! Brrr!!!! Happy Wednesday folks!
The title says it all. Yep, I’m doing some good old book-worming! To any Matrix fans out there it’s a book called The Matrix Trilogy – Cyberpunk Reloaded… It links in VERY well to the module I’m doing called Spectacles, Bodies & Other Pleasures: Concepts in Television, Film & Animation. I’d describe to you what it’s about but a) I’m still getting my head around it a bit and b)…there’s a lot to say. I must give kudos though because this is an original course, created by a lecturer and is very, very interesting! So I will try and go into more detail over the coming weeks.
Some good news: I got my second 1st of the year! This coming from the girl who got mostly Cs and the occasional Bs during college and high school; anything is possible!
Yep, normal timetable started up again yesterday. I didn’t blog because I was super tired and fell asleep- sorry. But I’m blogging now. I must say the 2nd semester thus far has been incredibly interesting! And I will discuss that in more detail tomorrow. But for now I must go to sleep (very early I know) so I can wake up fresh for CAR 2001 tomorrow (the employability course)!
Hope you’re all well!!!
Okay, well it isn’t Monday yet, but I’m certain tomorrow will be manic! Unfortunately a series of 9 AM starts begins tomorrow, which means I will be getting the buss at approximately quarter to 8. Will it even be light then? Shouldn’t really complain though, industry mornings for media workers are often 4 AM if not 3. Urgh…shudder at the thought!
Hope you’re all well! Wish me luck for getting up on time!!!!
Always, always do transcripts for your work. It may be time consuming but a) it will help you to pick out the best bits of your video and b) you’ll have to do it eventually so you may as well do it as you go along…unlike us, and now I am sat here with red fingers and a headache after typing out 40 minutes thereabouts!
Hope you’re well!!!!
