Despite the Easter break, we’ve still got a lot happening this month in FiN!
First off, Dr Julia Clayton has made the shortlist for the Observer / Anthony Burgess Arts Writing Prize 2026 (with a reception / ceremony in London on 13th May) with a review of the 150th Anniversary ‘Salon Hang’ exhibition at the Atkinson. Also, Julia’s short story ‘Open Evening’ (which won the Edge Hill MA Prize) has won 3rd prize in the Parracombe Short Story Competition 2026, run by an arts centre / artists’ community in North Devon. The story will be published in this year’s anthology

Elizabeth Baines’s short story collection Five Different Stories About One Thing is now available to buy here: Confingo Publishing | Manchester Book Publisher and she will have a launch in Manchester on 27th May.

Dr Kim Wiltshire has a new short story in The Amphibian magazine called ‘The Only Place She Ever Lived’ (The Amphibian Literary and Art Journal – for the culturally amphibious) and her short creative non-fiction piece, ‘Going Home’ will be published in Spring 2026 in Antenna, the new journal from University of Lisbon, more info here: https://humanidadesmedicas.letras.ulisboa.pt/pt/revista-antena/
