So I have an iPad!

So I’ve wanted one for like ever! I now I have one! And it is awesome!!

Great for chilling out on and playing games and using social networks etc. BUT

I also think that it is going to be really useful when I am back at university!

Okay so my ideas for giving the iPad an academic purpose are:

1) Next year I will be living off campus, again, so it will be a lot smaller and lighter for my to carry around instead of my laptop.

2) I can use it for lecture and seminar notes.

3) I can also use it when I am doing research in the library, which again saves me taking my heavy laptop.

4) I can watch films for my course on it/put films that I have watched for my course on it and them have them with me if I need to refer back to a scene etc.

5) Internet research

6) Ebooks! I can download them straight onto my iPad!

7) Can read through books and articles and highlight specific areas and book mark pages etc.

Those are my reasons thus far. So hopefully it will be a useful thing that have and hopefully it will save me lugging my laptop around which almost killed me last year.

Exciting stuff and we need your help!

Okay so as I am studying Film Studies and I obviously very interested in filmmaking; my boyfriend is too. And he has been given the opportuity to make a documentary for an American World Record Roller Coaster Rider! So as you will all be told when you get to university, and probably have already been told at school and college; Work Experience is really really important and useful! So yes! This documentary is a form of work experience!!

Okay, so it is all very busy and exciting.

The documentary is being filmed in Blackpool at the Pleasure Beach. Here is a more detailed synopsis:

“Richard Rodriguez is an American university lecturer with an eccentric hobby: he is the ‘King of the Rollercoasters.’ Rodriguez first broke the record for the world’s longest rollercoaster ride in 1977, at the age of nineteen. Fast forward to 2012, Rodriguez takes insulin four times a day, has partial paralysis of the legs, and is about to retire from ‘marathoning’ for good; but not before breaking his own record one last time by riding the Pepsi Max Big One in Blackpool for over 100 days.

In the style of Louis Theroux and eclectic documentaries akin to ‘The King of Kong,’debut documentarian Ashok Baker follows Rodriguez on his final record breaking attempt, while peeking behind the veil at the sub-culture of ‘rollerphiles’ and their love of the man-made monuments to thrills. Baker also tries to uncover what attracted Rodriguez to rollercoasters, and examines the remarkable connections and friendships he has made during his thirty-five years on the rails.”

So it sounds really good doesn’t it!

One tiny tiny issue though, we need funding to help make the production run as smooth as possible! So that is where you guys come in! If all of you could just contribute £1 (or more if you can afford it!) it would be much appreciated, everyone will be credited with a backing or thanks credit at least! The more you donate the more you get!

Help us make this documentary!

It’ll be one step closer to helping us achieve our future careers!

Okay so to sponsor! Just click here, it is dead easy and secure I’ve just donated £5 😀  http://www.sponsume.com/project/sideshow-seashore

Thank you in advance!

Started some work!

So I have been looking through the three books that I have bought in order to research for my dissertation… The fourth one was out of stock! So I have no idea how long I will have to wait for that one, which is really irritating because it is the book that I want to read the most!

And I have read one out of the 16 books for one of my modules next year and I have started another one. SO slowly I am getting somewhere with all of this stuff! 😀

And whilst I haven’t been doing work I have managed to watch series 1-8 of House. It was brilliant! Loved it! Hugh Laurie is just awesome. And after I’d watched all of those I started to watch True Blood, I’ve been meaning to watch it for ages and just never got round to it! But I have done series 1-4 of that! So I am getting lots of TV viewing down at the moment!

Been keeping very busy whilst I’ve not been at uni so far!!

Dissertation Meeting

So today was the day I had to travel back into uni from back in Blackpool to have my talk about dissertations next year.

I’ll start from the beginning of the day…

So I would have had to get the train from Blackpool to Ormskirk because I don’t have a car :'( and that would have probably have taken me about two hours at the least. With travelling to the train station, waiting for the train, then going to Preston, then waiting at the station in Preston, then getting on the train to Ormskirk and then walking to uni. That is just a horrible and tiring journey which also costs me money that I do not have.

So, because my boyfriend is just the best he said that he would drive me in which should take an hour!

Okay so he picks me up at quarter to ten (the meeting is at eleven) so that we can get there in good time. BUT we get stuck in the worst traffic I’ve seen in ages in Preston… I was panicking a bit actually, it got to half past ten before we got out of the traffic. So I was there thinking I am going to be late for this really important meeting!

Anyway. we got into Ormskirk at five to eleven. So the boyfriend dropped me off at the entrance and I pretty much ran into uni. I got there in time which I was shocked about.

The meeting:
Okay, the meeting was really helpful Andrea was talking us through aspects of what we had to do and how we were going to do it etc. And we got given the handbook to look over. We were also assigned our supervisors for next year. Those are the tutors who are going to help us get through the dissertation. I’ve got Peter. I’ve only had him for my horror lectures this year and no seminars. He seems really nice and he is funny, which I love. But because I haven’t had him for any seminars or anything I’m a bit nervous because he doesn’t really know me, and I am really bad with meeting new people. But I’m going to have to just push through it.

Anyways the meeting was only half an hour… Which kind of annoyed me because it took me over an hour to get there and I kinda feel as if the information we were given was all in the handbook anyway and we could have just been told to download the handbook offline etc. So it is a bit annoying. But it got me out and about for a bit of the day.

Now is where it gets serious though. Really need to start research for my dissertation etc. I’m scared about it I really am. But hopefully it’ll be good.

Hectic assessment week!

Essay handed in on Monday and then exam on Thursday and next week I have an exam on Monday and an essay to be in on Tuesday. So much to do but when this is out of the way everything will be a lot calmer. Will just have to prepare and write four essays for the beginning of May. Which means back to library days on a Wednesday so I can try and get as much done as possible over the next three weeks before Easter!!!

This week has been a long one,

So I’ve gone back home to Blackpool for the weekend to see my family. One of my aunties is down from Scotland and I barely ever see her so I took this opportunity to come and hang out.

This week I bought a book about how to write dissertations. Over the past few weeks I have been thinking about what I want to write mine about next year and I’ve decided upon writing it about early horror films. However, I’m struggling about what the main focus of my dissertation. So I bought the book to see if it helped me figure out my ideas. It seems like a really good book at the minute but I think I am going to email one of my tutors to ask for some advice. Ideally I would love to know what I want to write it about so that I can begin my research over the summer. I’ll let you guys know when I’ve decided what I’m going to base my dissertation on. 😀

Just had my photo taken

For this blog. Oh my, how embarrassing! Right in the middle of The Hub too… Hope they look okay, I’m really not photogenic though and I usually look stupid in photographs haha, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Currently sat in the library, just finished off one essay that is due in on Thursday and now I’m working on one  out of two that’s due in after Christmas. Going to aim to get half of this written and then move onto more research for the second one. Then it should be time for lecture; which I really have a feeling no one is going to turn up to because I don’t think hardly anyone knows about it ha ha, but I’m gonna go and find out for myself. Then at 3 after lecture if my house mate has paid me my £40 back I am going to walk into Ormskirk and buy my sister and my brother something for Christmas and then possible by myself some shoes! Yay 😀

And then after that I am going to go back to the house and pack so that I am ready to go home tomorrow morning! WOO! Cannot wait! Been looking forward to go home for weeks and weeks 😀

And then on Friday me and my boyfriend and two other friends are going to go to Manchester to go ice skating and then out for a meal!

I love Christmas!!

Reading Week

This week is reading week or independent study week (different courses call it different things). So basically this week I don’t have any lectures BUT I have lots of work to do. Therefore this week enables me to:

A) Revise for upcoming exams.

And

B) Research and plan essays.

I also need to go into university and talk to my tutors about my essays and anything else I want to 🙂

The main focus for me in reading week is going to be revising for 2 exams that I have next week and revising for an exam I have the week after and also writing an essay that has to be in in 3 weeks. TOO MUCH TO DO!

I wish that I only had to focus on essays this week and then have exams at the end of the semester, but it’s the other way round! Less stress after these exams I suppose 🙂
