Nothing much has happened really… I wrote an essay on Monday that is due in tomorrow. That was for my censorship module and I had to argue reasons for and against censorship in response to a film of my choice. I chose the film The Beast aka. La Bete, directed by Walerian Borowczyk, 1975. It is not a pleasant film and I wouldn’t recommend it but if you’re curious…
I have had a big rest this week, recently I have just been tired all the time and it was horrible so I’ve not done enough work really… I have an exam on Thursday so I need to start revising. I’m terrible at revising!
So I’ve gone back home to Blackpool for the weekend to see my family. One of my aunties is down from Scotland and I barely ever see her so I took this opportunity to come and hang out.
This week I bought a book about how to write dissertations. Over the past few weeks I have been thinking about what I want to write mine about next year and I’ve decided upon writing it about early horror films. However, I’m struggling about what the main focus of my dissertation. So I bought the book to see if it helped me figure out my ideas. It seems like a really good book at the minute but I think I am going to email one of my tutors to ask for some advice. Ideally I would love to know what I want to write it about so that I can begin my research over the summer. I’ll let you guys know when I’ve decided what I’m going to base my dissertation on. 😀
Okay, so this week is the last week of the semester for me and I’m going to be going home on Friday. So I am going to just take this opportunity to have a little moan.
As you all know I have been really busy recently with writing essays and preparing for deadlines that are this week. And two weeks ago I got really really annoyed.
Me and my friend sat down in lecture prepared to learn lots of information that we needed for one of our essays (that’s due in tomorrow!) and instead of our lecturer giving us a useful lecture we had a talk from the careers team.
Now, I know careers are important and at any other time or in another lecture (one where we didn’t have to have an essay in in two weeks) I wouldn’t have been bothered. BUT this really touched a nerve because we were being asked basic questions that we already knew the answers too about how to get a career within the film industry. We were also doing tasks that I really didn’t feel benefited us at all. It all just felt like a waste of time. Especially because I know where the careers team are and I know that if I do want to talk to them or ask for some advice I know that I can go and get it at a time that is convenient for me as well as them. The talk lasted the whole lecture and we ended up missing it. That meant that we weren’t prepared for the seminar, we were talking about something that we didn’t have a clue about because we missed the lecture! That meant that the week after we would basically have 2 hours worth of lecture in one, which I really don’t think is fair!
I just really hope that the university tries to arrange things better next year. I know that this issue will be discussed in a future course rep meeting so hopefully it will. 😀
So today lecturers are on strike so various lectures have been cancelled and so on.
I don’t have lectures on a Thursday anyway, which is annoying! Could have had another day off! Haha.
But as usual on a Wednesday me and Jenny have ventured to the library to try and do lots of work! We’ve been in here since eleven o’clock and it’s not one o’clock. I really don’t feel as if I have done that much work which is irritating.
As the strikes are on the library is really quiet, which is great. Hardly anyone is here so me and Jenny have been able to grab a table right near the Film Studies sections. YES! It is usually really really really overly busy in the library throughout the day, which really sucks, but today is good. Now all that is left is for my brain to get working to that I can finish this essay.
I have two deadlines before Christmas, one on the twelfth of December and one on the fifteenth of Decemeber. I’m currently working on the one due in on the twelfth, I am writing it about Masculinity within Film Noir films, which is harder than I thought it was going to be but, it is nearly done, just need to add a few more quotes and do a re-draft. I’m going to go and see my lecturer about it tomorrow lunch time to get some feedback and some ideas so that I am feeling confident about my essay. After I have done that next week I am going to focus on the essay due in on the fifteenth which I am writing about Martin Scorsese. Hopefully that essay won’t take me as long to write, but you never know. Then the week after that (when those two essays are due in) I am going to research for two other essays that have to be in at the beginning of January. Hopefully with any luck I’ll be able to write at least one of them before I go home for Christmas!
I really cannot wait until Christmas, I need a rest I’m so tired!
