So I have an iPad!

So I’ve wanted one for like ever! I now I have one! And it is awesome!!

Great for chilling out on and playing games and using social networks etc. BUT

I also think that it is going to be really useful when I am back at university!

Okay so my ideas for giving the iPad an academic purpose are:

1) Next year I will be living off campus, again, so it will be a lot smaller and lighter for my to carry around instead of my laptop.

2) I can use it for lecture and seminar notes.

3) I can also use it when I am doing research in the library, which again saves me taking my heavy laptop.

4) I can watch films for my course on it/put films that I have watched for my course on it and them have them with me if I need to refer back to a scene etc.

5) Internet research

6) Ebooks! I can download them straight onto my iPad!

7) Can read through books and articles and highlight specific areas and book mark pages etc.

Those are my reasons thus far. So hopefully it will be a useful thing that have and hopefully it will save me lugging my laptop around which almost killed me last year.

Dissertation

So I emailed my supervisor that I have for my dissertation next year with a more precise proposal. I really thought that my ideas were too big and that he was going to email me back saying “you’re rubbisshhh!!” and the wait for his reply killed me because I was so anxious.

BUT

His reply was actually really good. He said my ideas were strong but I shouldn’t be focusing on my segments yet and just focus on my ideas for now. So I’ve started writing a reply to him but I wanna make sure I can pack as much information in as possible.

I’m getting pretty motivated about this now. Yay. Thinking about buying some books to begin some mega research. I’m feeling excited, why am I feeling excited!? Ha ten thousand words is really scary…

Things to do this week are:

-Send email to my supervisor with more ideas.

-Look for some key books to begin research.

-Order books. Also check that the books that I am going  to order will be useful.

-Buy a big notepad and ring binder (I love stationary so this is the perfect excuse to spend some money.)

It feels weird that I’m going to be doing a lot of work over the summer when I am at home… Pfft kinda sucks. But needs to be done. I also need to read books for a module next year too but can’t get motivated to do that. Really don’t like reading books that I haven’t chosen myself.

This week has been a long one,

So I’ve gone back home to Blackpool for the weekend to see my family. One of my aunties is down from Scotland and I barely ever see her so I took this opportunity to come and hang out.

This week I bought a book about how to write dissertations. Over the past few weeks I have been thinking about what I want to write mine about next year and I’ve decided upon writing it about early horror films. However, I’m struggling about what the main focus of my dissertation. So I bought the book to see if it helped me figure out my ideas. It seems like a really good book at the minute but I think I am going to email one of my tutors to ask for some advice. Ideally I would love to know what I want to write it about so that I can begin my research over the summer. I’ll let you guys know when I’ve decided what I’m going to base my dissertation on. 😀

Oh Thursday, 9am – 5pm the pain!

So it’s Thursday, probably my worst day of the week. I am in uni 9am – 5pm :'( It makes me upset! Ha, on the upside though I have a 2 hour break in the middle to chill out and do work.

I am currently sat in The Hub with my friend and housemate Jenny. We had to be hawk eyed to grab a seat, it gets really busy in here around this time, luckily though we have managed to grab a couch!

So work that I am planning on doing, I have just taken out 3 books from the library on animation. (I do a module dedicated to animation) One book is on Genre & Authorship, another on Anime and another about Understanding Animation. These are in preperation for my exam that is in 3 weeks and also an essay that I have to write for December. I’m thinking I am going to write my essay on Anime and Disney cartoons. Which should be fun, in theory.

Thursday is an even busier day for me too as I usually have to rush back to my student house (a 20 minute walk away) grab all my clothes and dash to try and get the ten to six train to Preston (the train station is a 10 minute walk from my house). I tend to go home (Blackpool) on the weekends or to see my boyfriend (he lives in Preston and goes to UCLAN) so I manage to experience 2 different sides to uni life. I have to say Ormskirk is a much more pleasant environment but there are up and downsides to both which I will discuss throughout this blog.

Thanks for reading, come back soon 😀
