Library Day!!

It wasn’t very successful though, I didn’t do much but after this week is over it’s 3 weeks off for easter so I should be able to get all my work done then. Looking forward to not having to get up early for a few weeks haha 😀 But I’m just super lazy.
Long day ahead tomorrow 9am-5pm so I should get some sleep. I don’t feel tired though.

Interesting little side note. I was on tumblr before (the blogging site for all of you that may not know) and someone liked my post so I thought I would nosey at their profile. And it turns out that they are in their first year at Edge Hill. I find that really strange that we just kinda bumped into one another online. 😀

The end of another assessment week

Exam on Monday morning for Horror. Think I did okay. And then an essay in for Tuesday. Very hectic searching round the library looking for a computer to print my work off… Then worrying that I didn’t have enough money on my account to actually print it! I eventually did it though which is all good. Now two more weeks until eater, then we have three weeks off. Which means it is time to start work on assessments that are due in at the beginning of May. The n after easter we are back for two weeks and then that’s that for the summer 😀

This week has been a long one,

So I’ve gone back home to Blackpool for the weekend to see my family. One of my aunties is down from Scotland and I barely ever see her so I took this opportunity to come and hang out.

This week I bought a book about how to write dissertations. Over the past few weeks I have been thinking about what I want to write mine about next year and I’ve decided upon writing it about early horror films. However, I’m struggling about what the main focus of my dissertation. So I bought the book to see if it helped me figure out my ideas. It seems like a really good book at the minute but I think I am going to email one of my tutors to ask for some advice. Ideally I would love to know what I want to write it about so that I can begin my research over the summer. I’ll let you guys know when I’ve decided what I’m going to base my dissertation on. 😀

This week so far…

has been sooo tiring! It’s only Tuesday night and I am dead on my feet.

Yesterday I had my second lecture for Horror and I loved it and today was my second lecture for Documentary.

I feel like I am doing loads of work in the lectures and seminars this semester which is really good 😀

Going to begin thinking about and researching for one of my assignments tomorrow because I have the day off. Hopefully I can get started on it tomorrow night as it is only a Critical Appraisal in response to a written article and they don’t usually take as much research as other essays. SO I should be easing my way into the work load because later on in the semester it is going to be hectic!!

Best get one out of the way 😀

The first week of a new semester!

Well it’s just been the first week back at uni for this semester and I have to say it has been the best so far! I’ve had a really good time.

But before I tell you this I shall tell you what happened when I moved back last Sunday… Well me and my mum set off from Blackpool (about an hours drive away) in the car at about 1ish and drove all the way to Ormskirk, because my mum’s lovely she offered to buy me a little bit of shopping so we went to the Morrisons in town. When we got out of the car we noticed that one of the tires on her car was going flat… So, because neither of us have ever changed a car tyre before we rang my dad (who was back in Blackpool) and he decided to drive all the way to Ormskirk to change it for us because my mum didn’t have her AA card :'(

By the time my dad had changed the tyre and I actually got back to the house it was about 5ish and I was super cold and tired. But, that was an eventful couple of hours. So maybe a Top Tip could be: Check your vehicle for any dodgy things, remember your AA (or whatever company your with) card is with you; just in case, maybe have someone who can change a tyre with you on the journey (if you’re super paranoid!) oh and of course, make sure your car has a spare tyre!

So back to why this week was AWESOME!

I am currently studying 4 modules per semester. 2 carry on from last and 2 start new this semester.

Last semester I did Film Genre and Film Realism (both of those carry on this semester) and I did Film Authorship and Film Animation (I absolutely loved the animation module and kinda wish that it was a year long module, but I am however thinking about doing something on animation for my dissertation next year.)

Now the two new modules that I am doing are: Film Censorship and Film Identity and Representation.

SO, this week I went to lectures and a lot of them were just basic introductions to what we are going to be studying so:

Film Genre : I am going to be spending the semester studying Horror, yay! I love horror 😀

Film Realism : is going to be focusing on Documentary okay, not so exciting but still should be good.

Film Censorship : I am really excited for this one, I am going to be studying lots of probably disturbing and disgusting stuff, but it will be really interesting finding out about how films are censored and what some filmmakers actually put in there films and the extremes that they go to!

Identity and Representation : I will be looking at Feminism, Lesbian, Gay, Transsexual and Black cinema. Which I know is going to be really interesting and it’s going to be different that just looking at cinema as a whole, it’s going to be really focused. I’m looking forward to it 😀

So that’s my modules, sounds really good right!? Yay.

Also this week me and 2 of my house mates tried to make a rainbow cake but all the colour disappeared, we’re really confused about why and how…

Oh, and I’ve bought The Hunger Games trilogy!! 😀 On the first book at the minute. It’s good!

So after the Christmas break…

It’s now that time again to start thinking about moving back to Ormskirk.

I live with 4 of my friends and another boy that lived in the house last year. I wish that we hadn’t moved into that house because he is very very selfish. He doesn’t clean up after himself and he leaves the kitchen in a mess. He uses all of our pots pans and plates and doesn’t wash them! He leaves his dirty plates (well our plates!) in his room, seriously last time he brought down like 15 plates, he left them on the side and went home for the weekend… Which is not very nice. So it’s annoying to find out from one of my housemates who moved back yesterday that he has smashed one of my lovely plates… They were expensive :'( they had hearts and stars on them and I loved them lots! (I know it sounds pathetic but now my cutlery set is uneven, I have 2 of everything apart from my plates, haha)

SO Top Tip: Seriously consider who you are going to be living with after first year!

That has put me in a bad mood before even going back…

We’ve also recieved a gas and electric bill that seems to be over priced…  I HATE BILLS! WE’RE STUDENTS AND WE’RE POOR! LEAVE US ALONE! Haha as if….lol

So how good is this start of the new semester!!

I’m going to have a little bit of a moan.

Okay, so this week is the last week of the semester for me and I’m going to be going home on Friday. So I am going to just take this opportunity to have a little moan.

As you all know I have been really busy recently with writing essays and preparing for deadlines that are this week. And two weeks ago I got really really annoyed.

Me and my friend sat down in lecture prepared to learn lots of information that we needed for one of our essays (that’s due in tomorrow!) and instead of our lecturer giving us a useful lecture we had a talk from the careers team.

Now, I know careers are important and at any other time or in another lecture (one where we didn’t have to have an essay in in two weeks) I wouldn’t have been bothered. BUT this really touched a nerve because we were being asked basic questions that we already knew the answers too about how to get a career within the film industry.  We were also doing tasks that I really didn’t feel benefited us at all. It all just felt like a waste of time. Especially because I know where the careers team are and I know that if I do want to talk to them or ask for some advice I know that I can go and get it at a time that is convenient for me as well as them. The talk lasted the whole lecture and we ended up missing it. That meant that we weren’t prepared for the seminar, we were talking about something that we didn’t have a clue about because we missed the lecture! That meant that the week after we would basically have 2 hours worth of lecture in one, which I really don’t think is fair!

I just really hope that the university tries to arrange things better next year. I know that this issue will be discussed in a future course rep meeting so hopefully it will. 😀

Just had my photo taken

For this blog. Oh my, how embarrassing! Right in the middle of The Hub too… Hope they look okay, I’m really not photogenic though and I usually look stupid in photographs haha, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Currently sat in the library, just finished off one essay that is due in on Thursday and now I’m working on one  out of two that’s due in after Christmas. Going to aim to get half of this written and then move onto more research for the second one. Then it should be time for lecture; which I really have a feeling no one is going to turn up to because I don’t think hardly anyone knows about it ha ha, but I’m gonna go and find out for myself. Then at 3 after lecture if my house mate has paid me my £40 back I am going to walk into Ormskirk and buy my sister and my brother something for Christmas and then possible by myself some shoes! Yay 😀

And then after that I am going to go back to the house and pack so that I am ready to go home tomorrow morning! WOO! Cannot wait! Been looking forward to go home for weeks and weeks 😀

And then on Friday me and my boyfriend and two other friends are going to go to Manchester to go ice skating and then out for a meal!

I love Christmas!!
