Films that I am writing/have written my essays about!

Okay so the first essay that I wrote (due in on the 12th December) was for my Film Genre module about constructions of an acceptable masculinity with film noir. So the films that Ichose to write about were: Laura (Otto Preminger, 1944) and The Lady From Shangha (Orson Welles, 1947)

The second essay that I wrote (due in on the 15th December) for my Authorship module was about Martin Scorsese and him as an auteur. The films that I chose to focus upon to write this essay were Casion (Martin Scorsese, 1995)and Shutter Island (Martin Scorsese, 2010)

So those are done and handed in WOO! I now have two more essays that are due in and the beginning of January.

One for my Realism module about Realism in propaganda films using one English speaking film and one non-English speaking. The two films that I am focusing upon for this essay are: The Eternal Jew (Der Ewige Jude) (Fritz Hippler, 1940) and Listen to Britain (Humphrey Jennings and Stewart McAllister,1942)

And finally the last essay that has to be in is for my Animation module where I am discussing the differences in the construction of female characters in anime films than Disney. For this I am looking at Princess Mononoke (Hayao Miyazaki, 1997) and Cinderella (Clyde Geronimi and Wilfred Jackson,1950)

I’m going to have a little bit of a moan.

Okay, so this week is the last week of the semester for me and I’m going to be going home on Friday. So I am going to just take this opportunity to have a little moan.

As you all know I have been really busy recently with writing essays and preparing for deadlines that are this week. And two weeks ago I got really really annoyed.

Me and my friend sat down in lecture prepared to learn lots of information that we needed for one of our essays (that’s due in tomorrow!) and instead of our lecturer giving us a useful lecture we had a talk from the careers team.

Now, I know careers are important and at any other time or in another lecture (one where we didn’t have to have an essay in in two weeks) I wouldn’t have been bothered. BUT¬†this really touched a nerve because we were being asked basic questions that we already knew the answers too about how to get a career within the film industry. ¬†We were also doing tasks that I really didn’t feel benefited us at all. It all just felt like a waste of time. Especially because I know where the careers team are and I know that if I do want to talk to them or ask for some advice I know that I can go and get it at a time that is convenient for me as well as them. The talk lasted the whole lecture and we ended up missing it. That meant that we weren’t prepared for the seminar, we were talking about something that we didn’t have a clue about because we missed the lecture! That meant that the week after we would basically have 2 hours worth of lecture in one, which I really don’t think is fair!

I just really hope that the university tries to arrange things better next year. I know that this issue will be discussed in a future course rep meeting so hopefully it will. ūüėÄ

Just had my photo taken

For this blog. Oh my, how¬†embarrassing! Right in the middle of The Hub too… Hope they look okay, I’m really not photogenic though and I usually look stupid in photographs haha, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Currently sat in the library, just finished off one essay that is due in on Thursday and now I’m working on one ¬†out of two that’s due in after Christmas. Going to aim to get half of this written and then move onto more research for the second one. Then it should be time for lecture; which I really have a feeling no one is going to turn up to because I don’t think hardly anyone knows about it ha ha, but I’m gonna go and find out for myself. Then at 3 after lecture if my house mate has paid me my ¬£40 back I am going to walk into Ormskirk and buy my sister and my brother something for Christmas and then possible by myself some shoes! Yay ūüėÄ

And then after that I am going to go back to the house and pack so that I am ready to go home tomorrow morning! WOO! Cannot wait! Been looking forward to go home for weeks and weeks ūüėÄ

And then on Friday me and my boyfriend and two other friends are going to go to Manchester to go ice skating and then out for a meal!

I love Christmas!!

Money Problems!

Yes so I am a student and yes I have money problems! What a surprise!!

So I shall explain why I have money issues.

Last year I was terrible at budgeting! Honestly I was the worst, in the first semester I managed to spend all of my loan and ¬£200 savings that I had! I don’t know what happened, well actually I do, HMV and H&M! Those evil evil stores ate up all my money. And in second semester last year I ran out of money a couple of weeks before I finished for easter because I put my birthday fancy dress outfit before my need for food. It was bad I was so hungry! I even tried pasta and gravy because those were the only things I had left. It was not nice.

So TOP TIP! Budget, budget and budget!

Okay, so this year I was determined to stick to my budget. However, I also wanted to pass my driving test as soon as possible. So this created a few issues. I started having driving lessons. I booked 10 hours worth at the¬†beginning¬†of October. Those ten hours cost me ¬£190 which is pretty cheap for driving lessons these days. So that was that amount gone out of my budget. I borrowed money of my boyfriend for the test which was ¬£62, I borrowed the money so that I had a chance of not actually running out of money ha ha. Another expense that I and my house hold have is internet, which is about ¬£5 a month (which isn’t too bad) and the TV license, which works out as about ¬£2.50 each per month (also not too bad). To try and not run out of money I have tried to stick to ¬£20-¬£30 per week, which is hard, especially because I get to the train to Preston every weekend and have to get it back on the Monday so that’s a total of ¬£11. Okay. So I had all that money going out, but I was on track to sticking to my budget and actually¬†surviving.

Me and my house mates received a gas and electric bill. NOOO! That worked out at ¬£46.06 each. And that was for 3 months. Which I don’t think is that bad, however, I hadn’t budgeted for it because for some reason we thought that the bills wouldn’t come through until January :'(

Okay, so now for the last two weeks of the semester I have a grand total of about ¬£10 to live off. I guess I shall be getting a lot of stuff from Iceland… That shop is a life saver, hopefully.
