{"id":7,"date":"2008-05-18T18:54:35","date_gmt":"2008-05-18T17:54:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/eurovision\/2008\/05\/18\/irelande-douze-pints\/"},"modified":"2009-04-28T11:07:48","modified_gmt":"2009-04-28T10:07:48","slug":"irelande-douze-pints","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/eurovision\/2008\/05\/18\/irelande-douze-pints\/","title":{"rendered":"Irelande Douze Pints&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><font face=\"arial\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/eurovision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2008\/05\/ireland-baner-small.JPG\" alt=\"ireland-baner-small.JPG\" \/><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial\">Greetings from sunny Belgrade!\u00a0 I made it to Serbia with no real delays and met up with my friend Karen Fricker at the airport and we took a cab to our apartment \u2013 which is very homely, and will suit us just fine (especially given that taking with people on our first night in Belgrade that the hotels sound less that bijou!).<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial\">So, having dropped our bags at around 7.00pm it was time to hit the ground running as we had our first party to get to for shortly after 8.00pm. Karen writes for the Irish Times, and is accredited by RTE, the Irish broadcaster, and she had travelled from Heathrow with members of that delegation, as a result she had been invited to the Irish delegation\u2019s party for their entry, Dustin The Turkey.\u00a0 Dustin will be performing \u2018Irelande Douze Points\u2019, and this party was certainly fuelled by a free bar and Douze PINTS!\u00a0 There was a great atmosphere and we were treated to a guest appearance from the turkey of the moment \u2013 Dustin himself!<\/font><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/eurovision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2008\/05\/dustin-1sma.jpg\" alt=\"dustin-1sma.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial\">The crowd were on excellent form, and it certainly felt like a baptism of fire attending my first ever europarty.\u00a0 There was quite an amusing stand-off between the German group No Angels (the name really does say it all!) and the female singer from the Czech Republic and her backing singers\u2026 who looked the best was obviously what they were concerned with, but to the rest of us it was who had the biggest implants\u2026<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial\">Next it was off to the \u2018Euroclub\u2019 nite spot that\u2019s available to all the accredited people at the ESC this year, where, amongst others we saw a performance from hot favourite Ani Lorak, representing Ukraine \u2013 who could very well win again this year having just missed out last year.\u00a0 As you can see from my impressive photography I\u2019m certainly going to be capturing the moment quite well for you over the coming week!<\/font><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.edgehill.ac.uk\/eurovision\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2008\/05\/ukraine-small.JPG\" alt=\"ukraine-small.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial\">The funniest moment of the evening came as Karen and I were leaving the Euroclub (wish I\u2019 had my camera out) \u2013 the Russian entry Dima Bilan swept through the foyer looking somewhat like a Liberace impersonator and a huge entourage, all of whom were demanding attention, and only impressing themselves\u2026 it was so OTT that you could not help but find it funny. Then again, I guess that it\u2019s better if you\u2019d seen it!\u00a0 Trust us to be leaving as the bookies favourite was arriving.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial\">So, that was (cue Big Brother voice-over man) \u2018Day One in Belgrade.
