But such is the price you have to pay for interests outside of your course. This morning I’m up for another slot on the uni radio station, which is always good fun if ill-timed!
In literature related news, this week saw a limited number of students off on a field trip to Wordsworth’s house. Exciting events of this trip included an extremely nouty woman who got angry when we tried to enjoy tea and biscuits and a useless guide who forgot the correct term for a cupboard and called it a “coal-hole”. Hilarity ensued. The trip was, of course, not intended to be a study of the more peculiar specimens in academia but an aid to the Order and Chaos module. I’m not sure what we learned on that front apart from the Coleridge was a pushy so-and-so and made inconvenient house calls without warning, oh and Wordsworth was very unimaginative with pet names!
Ah well, it was a fun day out with the wonderful staff and involved singing on a bus, so definitely not a day wasted! Especially not since we found a lovely pub to escape the rain in…
This is supposed to be a quiet month with no assignments due in… But I have filled the time!
A proper argument is starting to form from the primordial ooze of my dissy notes, slowly but surely.
There are many interesting books to read for the rest of the semester, including some fabulous stories of the supernatural and some modern crime books (that to be honest are a bit out of my field, but hopefully live up to the excitement they’re causing with those more familiar with the authors). And how could I forget the 18th Century novels, Austen anyone?
In less academic news, my lovely partner in noise-pollution and myself will be bringing you classic rock and punk tonight at our usual time (8-10) and tomorrow, as a rare treat, we will be relaxing with a brew to the softer side of rock in the breakfast slot 12-2pm! Do you feel spoilt yet? You should. If you have any requests, or would like to join in with tonight’s feature of bands that used to be great but turned rubbish, give Chezzer and Chazzer a shout out on the L:39 radio Facebook page!
As an end note, if you have any questions about English Lit here at Edge Hill drop me a tweet or a comment and I’ll get back to you asap.
What a mental week. Possibly my best attendance this year and got so many things sorted! Yet, still no real work done on any of my assignments for this year. Because I’m just brilliant like that, clearly.
List of assignments to do include;
One overdue critical review on one book from a set list.
Two increasingly imminent full length essays on very different topics.
One presentation that is far to close for comfort.
In preparation for these I have scribbled notes scattered around my desk, and finally have all of the set texts! Quick tip; Blackwells can be pretty useless and take months to deliver a single book, and then deliver another one within days. Order books early if you want to avoid being skinned alive by overworked and nouty tutors.
In other news, I have a radio show next Friday from 8pm-10pm. Tune in if you can but I will warn you to expect explicit tunes and banter in the last hour!
