The Original Sculpture Park
Next Thursday, 13th May the sculpture trail will officially open but Joan Steele has sent in the poster from the original sculpture park:
Make sure you pick up the new trail map from next week and check them out around campus.
Sculpture Found!
As Margie pointed out and Howard Turpin from Learning Services spotted, the Unknown Sculpture can be found in Southport and thanks to the scary wonders of Google Street View we can even see it!
Update: I should have thought to look in Fiona Montgomery’s book earlier as it tells us (almost) everything we want to know:
The Eternal Struggle by Dan Manning is one of the best known of the Edge Hill sculptures. In the tradition of Henry Moore it was originally on show at the Crystal Palace. Constructed from preformed concrete, at first sight it seems to be two separate parts, closer inspection reveals that it is two separate parts, but linked. This gave the title ‘Eternal Struggle’ and, in a burst of irony (?), is was located outside the Chief Executive’s window!
Unknown Sculpture
While all the sculptures I’ve blogged about so far are still present on campus, the one seen in this photo is no longer here. The photo shows Bernie and a colleague tending the rose bed in front of the main building.
Does anybody know its name, the sculptor, why it is no longer there or where it went to?
“Goat” – Tony Evans
A new piece of art has been unveiled in Edge Hill University’s sculpture park as part of the institution’s 125th anniversary celebrations.
Liverpool-born artist Tony Evans has created the artwork which uses a skin of copper sheet over a skeleton of stainless steel. The new commission depicts an impressionistic representation of a goat and idea that came from the University’s semi-rural location.
See the new sculpture outside the Business and Law building and a selection of Tony’s work in the building’s foyer until Friday 19th March.
“Tight Rope Walker” – Paul Bearman
“Bingo Bango” – Robert Scriven
“Cosmopolitan Group No: 3” – Ted Roocroft
“Aphrodite by the Water” – Tony Unsworth
As part of the 125 anniversary there will be an addition to the Sculpture Park around campus so I figure it’s a good time to take a look around the existing sculptures.
Another photo the next time I’m stuck for something else to write about at 11pm!
