I’ve mentioned Durning Road – the original site of Edge Hill College – a few times but now we get to look at maps!

Thanks to EDINA’s Historic Digimap service which Edge Hill subscribes to we can see old maps of the area. The map above is from 1908 and shows how the old tram system ran straight past the college.

  1. Not much left of that area. St Cyprian’s church is still there, as well as Durning Rd & Clint Rd. Site is now housing – Canova St / Merival St now replace by Old College Place

  2. As a mature student at Edgehill, I recall attending the site when Old Swan Technical College were using it in 1986 just after Edgehill Boys School vacated the property. I grew up not far from the area and it lay derelict for quite a while.

  3. I find this truly fascinating. I lived in Flaxman St. for the first 15 years of my life. I attended Clint Road School and went to St. Cyprian’s Church. I find it very sad to see the church looking so neglected. I would love to go inside just one more time for old time’s sake.
