Public Transport

register-nowIt’s nearly the start of the year and if you don’t live on campus, you are probably trying to work out how you are going to get to Uni and back. There are many alternative from Train, Bus and car.

I was recently told about this website called liftshare which is very useful if you want to cut the cost of travelling or find someone who could give you a lift.

It’s very easy to use and you just need to register to be able to see if there is anyone offering the route and time you are looking for. As we all know parking can sometime be a little bit tricky with all the people driving on campus so this might be  a good idea to to investigate.

If you live in Liverpool it’s very easy to commute to Ormskirk. Train leave every 15 minutes from Central Station. If you are going to travel more than 4 times a week, I would recommend to apply for a Term Time Ticket. It ’s valid from September to December, Monday to Friday on all zone and will be much cheaper than buying a ticket every day.

To be able to buy this ticket you will need to get the university to stamp a form. This can be done at the SIC (Student Information Centre) . This ticket is available to everyone in full time education.

If you need to take the bus or use the train during the week-end it might not be the best option for you. But if like me you need to be able to use the train during the week then I think it was the cheapest ticket.

Train TicketI was reading the forum this morning and saw a question about the cheapest way of traveling to and from Ormskirk.

I took the train nearly everyday from Central Station this year.

A single (peak time) ticket is £5.20 not great value if you often travel on the train.

A weekly ticket is £19.20 you will need to have a Railpass in order to be able to buy this. (see link at bottom of this post)

As I was only traveling to Ormskirk 4 times a week, I applied for a Term Time Ticket. It costs £129 (last year) and was valid from September to December, Monday to Friday on all zone. I used it for 14 weeks which works out at £9.21 a week. Cheaper than two return ticket!

To be able to buy this ticket you will need to get the university to stamp a form. This can be done at the SIC (Student Information Centre) . This ticket is available to everyone in full time education.
