Ormskirk

Welcome to Ormskirk

Ormskirkmarket is every Thursday and  Saturday from 8am-4.30pm during March to October and 8am-4pm November to February. If you look at the map below the market is covering pretty much all of the pedestrian street. You will find everything you can think (or maybe not) from food to furniture and household items.

It’s a very nice market and has been running since 1286! So by now they must know what they sre doing. I would recommend going just out of interest or to get some nice stuff.

Just to help you out the first few days I have attached a map of the Town Centre:

Some say you can tell what a place is like just by reading the local newspaper.

Well, I would encourage everyone to read the Ormskirk advertiser to make up their own mind. Ormskirk has it’s own newspaper which has an exciting website?

Ormskirk Advertiser

If this is not enough you can always buy a copy of the Echo from which you will know everything you want to know, or not about Liverpool.

Or if you are the more sofisticated type what about the Daily post?

just click on the banner to access the website directly or go to your news agent and buy a copy! The ormskirk advertiser is pleasant reading and allow you to know what’s happening in Ormi.  They even manage to get an exclusive interview with bad lashes when they came to switch the christmas light on!

Enjoy!

Are you ready for the annual Christmas lights switch-on in Ormskirk? This year it’s going to be big! The town has decided to spend big money this year to get some super stars to press the button:

The one and only Bad Lashes!

Who? The Bad Lashes from the x-factor!

According to the official website this is what’s going to happen:

“Town Crier Don Evans will then call for order and will be asking for the crowds to help him countdown to the big switch-on at 6.30pm when Ormskirk will be full of light.

Refreshments will be served at Ormskirk Parish Church after the event.

Visitors will also have the chance to pick up a Christmas gift or two at one of the many charity stalls around the town centre or at the Chapel Gallery’s Christmas Fine Art and Contemporary Craft Fair.” (West Lancashire website)

And if you are still unsure who are the Bad Lashes here is a little video

Left Bank Brasserie OrmskirkLeft Bank Brasserie OrmskirkI went to the Left Bank Brasserie, in Ormskirk, with some friends the other day. It’s quite a big place and the staff are friendly.  The clientèle is a mix of big parties, couples, families with young children and it looks like everyone is welcome. The staff was friendly and comprehensive when we waited for 15mn for someone to arrive  before ordering our food.

The menu was a little bit confusing with all the different offers. But at £11.95 for a two course meal you can’t really complain. We were allowed to get dessert instead of starter as part of the menu deal which was great.

We ordered steak, salmon and chicken. The food arrived quickly. My friend was surprised to see the asparagus spears  was hidden in the mash potatoes. That what she thought, the top of the asparagus was missing (the nicest part in my opinion). When asked, the waiter told us it was the way they are cut in Ormskirk…

The other accompanying vegs were poorly cooked (ever had an uncooked chips?). The accompanying salad wasn’t dress  and it seems someone forgot to peel the carrots… Obviously whoever cut the asparagus and carrots had no idea about what to keep or not.

Still we had a great night and according to reviews and comments from locals it is really appreciated. Maybe the chef had is day off that night, but I won’t go back to check if that was the case…

Rose Theatre EntranceEdge Hill has its own Theatre seating over 200 people! It’s located next to the Performing art building. If you live on campus or nearby it is a great place to go and see plays or film. The tickets are really cheap and can be purchased directly from the box office within the performing art building.

If you want to find out what is currently going on at the Rose you can go directly to their website.  If you wish you can even join their mailing list.
