I went to the Left Bank Brasserie, in Ormskirk, with some friends the other day. It’s quite a big place and the staff are friendly. The clientèle is a mix of big parties, couples, families with young children and it looks like everyone is welcome. The staff was friendly and comprehensive when we waited for 15mn for someone to arrive before ordering our food.
The menu was a little bit confusing with all the different offers. But at £11.95 for a two course meal you can’t really complain. We were allowed to get dessert instead of starter as part of the menu deal which was great.
We ordered steak, salmon and chicken. The food arrived quickly. My friend was surprised to see the asparagus spears was hidden in the mash potatoes. That what she thought, the top of the asparagus was missing (the nicest part in my opinion). When asked, the waiter told us it was the way they are cut in Ormskirk…
The other accompanying vegs were poorly cooked (ever had an uncooked chips?). The accompanying salad wasn’t dress and it seems someone forgot to peel the carrots… Obviously whoever cut the asparagus and carrots had no idea about what to keep or not.
Still we had a great night and according to reviews and comments from locals it is really appreciated. Maybe the chef had is day off that night, but I won’t go back to check if that was the case…
