Liverpool

This week-end in Liverpool is the Hope Street FEAST. Hope street is the street that links the two cathedrals. It’s a beautiful street with plenty of restaurant and pub to go. If you come to Liverpoll it’s worth going just for a walk in betweeen the 2 cathedrals. Hope street is only a few minutes walk from central station. (Just walk up bold street, pass St luke church, Up Hardman street and here you are!)

This week end is the time to go to discover the Hope Street Feast! I went last year and it was a great day out with free stuff, open day at the Philarmonic, the Everyman and lot lot more. I think this is a great opportunity to discover the city centre and have a great day out. Hopefully it will be as sunny as it has been in the last 2 years.

go-penguins-200

I was walking in the blue coat gallery when I noticed a giant blue penguin. Quite an unusual sight so I decided to go and have a closer look. Apparently this winter the penguins are going to invade Liverpool. After a very successful Superlambanana parade and trail the Council has decided to create a new version using penguin this year. Why penguins you wonder, well why not they will say!

Actually they chose a penguin as 2009 is  Liverpool’s Year of the Environment and penguins are often associated with global warming and the melting ice-caps.

Imagine my surprised the other day when walking through the arcade I saw the Busking Audition for L1 shopping centre. Like any other audition a number of wanna be a singer were queuing to sing a song in front of a judging panel. The jury was composed of someone from a local radio and people from nearby shops. Nothing like the X-facator but nearly as entertaining!

Once the audition over the very, very kind judges would give their verdicts on the performance. The aim of these auditions is not very clear. I don’t know if they are looking to allow certain people to sing in the shopping centre or if this was just a one off event.

If you want to go to the cinema in liverpool the two cinemas located within the city centre at the moment are:

Odeon in the new L1 shopping centre and Fact in Bold Street. There are also cinema in Southport which might be a little bit closer but I have never been there myself so I couldn’t recoommend.

The Odeon Cinema in L1 is massive and only opened last year. You will also find lots of bar and restaurant so it’s a great night out!

I would highly recommend fact if you like foreign movies or seeing something different from Hollywood blockbusters.

Did you know that Williamson Square, in Liverpool City Centre has been transformed into a beach?  Well it’s more a sand pit for children than a beach but it’s a great idea and very popular it seems. The idea of bringing the beach to the city was first introduced in Paris in 2002.  It’s now a massive event stretching on 1km along the Seine.

The Liverpool equivalent is still at it’s early stages and next to  the beach there is a fair and all sort of other activities you would usually find on the seaside. If you are feeling like cooling down you can run to the water fountain and get soaked within a second.

It’s great to see new event being introduced in the city!
