Eating Out

I went to this Thai restaurant with some friends. Chaophraya is located in the middle of the L1 shopping centre and is adjacent to a great bar, Palm Sugar. Chaophraya is a name you can’t forget (or even say in my case) and once you have tried the food you will went to go back, well I do.

As you walk in the first thing you notice is the fish-tank ceiling and then the luxurious interior. The restaurant is on two floor and we got a table downstair near the bar.

We ordered some starter and they were just delicious. The portion are quite large so one starter will be enough for two, unlike us you had to leave some food, as we were worried we wouldn’t be able to eat the main course. While waiting for our maincourse we could watch the chefs cooking through the glass wall, fascinating. For main course I had a very tasty Green Thai Curry full of flavour with a great very sticky rice.

What’s great is the bill wasn’t outrageous £22 per person (1 starter, one main course, one beer, one coffee(cold…) I would recommend Chaophraya to anyone who is looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate something or just have great food!!

I also have to mention the toilet they are worth a visit the ladies and gents are separated by a massive fish tank. (someone here obviously loves fish tanks) and the deco is quite something; very intriguing…

Imagine my surprise this morning when I open my email and read this comment:

Hi Tom, saw your review on Left Bank and so I am inviting you to try the food at the Town Green inn, Aughton – not far from you at all! All genuinely fresh and locally sourced, served with a smile most days (everyone has an off day occasionally lol) and we do meals from £3.95. Also happy hour 4-6 every day except Sunday where Carling is £1.95 as is Smooth – see you there. Caroline

First of all I thought, superbe  an invite to go to a restaurant, free food and booze! This blog seems to become some kind of  restaurant review and I might get to eat for free from now on! But looking more closely at the comment I realised that it wasn’t an invitation but more like some kind of self promotion.

The town green Inn is about 10 minute by car  from the uni but far too far away from my house to go and check it out. No website either so I can’t tell you anything about the £3.95 meals. As anyone been there? What did you think?

If you want to go and check it out that’s where it is:

If you go let me know!

Looking for somewhere to go for a night, a meal or just a drink? You have been to Liverpool and back. If you want to get out off the beaten track go to Lark Lane in Aigburth. You will find a Thai, Chinese, Greek, Turkish, Italian  restaurants as well as some other place. There are also 5 pubs to choose from and even somewhere to buy a kebab!

I recently moved nearby and I have been having some great night out trying different places. My favorite as to be the bargain breakfast you can get from a place called the moon and pea. (can’t make that one up really)

To get there from Ormi you will need to get the train to central station and change to go to St Michaels.  It’s a great place to go out with your friends or if you want to go out on a romantic night out.

The uni is a fine place for the foodies looking for a culinary treat. It provides you with real opportunity to taste food you have always wanted to try but never really knew where to get it from. From the diner where you will be able to buy burgers, pizza (any combo you like including Tuna, Ham, Pepperoni, Chicken, Spicy beef, Mushroom, Olives, pepper etc..) to the grinders bar where you will be able to taste spicy meatball paninis.

The principal eatery is the Terrace café in the main building serving an exquiste breakfast till 11am (free range eggs only!!) and a selection of daily special including roast diner and currys. Don’t miss the chef signature dish chips and gravy! (if you feel like a threat you could have the lot in a butty?)

The highlight of any visit to the campus has to be the delicious, highly rated and rather special FRESH hot toasties from the machine in the bar! (toasted NOT microwaved!) I highly recommend a nice fresh coke (from the machine conveniently located on the right )for a perfect experience.

Enjoy a gourmet meal from one of the 6 or 7 edge hill restaurants.

Et bon appétit Messieurs Dames!

If yourself feel like a food critique share your experience in the comments section!

I met a friend in the city centre and we decide to go for a cup of tea (for her) and a coffee (for me). For some unknown reason, or at least I can’t remember why we met in front of the Philharmonic Hall. The choice up there is quite large from pub to bar, café and restaurant.. So we decided to go to the Quarter which is mainly a restaurant but also serve drinks coffee and AMAZING cakes during the day.

The quarter is a long established place in Liverpool (judging by the way the wooden floor is worn out in some places) I would describe it as mainly Italian but offers other alternative. The clientèle varies from groups to couple or even families with young children. You can brave the weather and sit outside or choose from 3 different room which give the place a cosy feeling. Inside you will also see some paintings or photographies from local artist on sale which give the place a different look every-time you go in.

The quarter is the perfect place to go if you want to go to a relatively cheap restaurant that aslo offer great pizza and a variety of daily special. I enjoyed my flap jack (still baffled by the coconut but it was lovely) and for once the tea pot was just a normal tea pot size!!
